What was your inspiration before you make your comic?

Devil May Cry (anime version)
Soul Eater and Devil May Cry helped me decide that I wanted my story to be based on demon hunters.

Kill La Kill - I knew I wanted balls to the wall crazy action even for a comic and this gave me good inspiration though mine will be a tad bit more tame than that xD because comic and all. But if it was to be animated I'd like it to have crazy action like that.

For the comic I'm planning to debut this month "New Courage" my inspiration was my parents. IDK if I'll explain it more than that for now.

I read the mangas Toradora and Ouran Host Club and thought "Wait a minute. . . I can do this!" although I really hate drawing backgrounds and clean up work. What I write is a mix of things that have happened to me, and the things that I wished had happened to me.

I've yet to start posting my comic (gotta work on that buffer). Heck, this is my first forum post. It is a little intimidating looking around at everyone's wonderful drawing skills, but the community seems so supportive I thought it might be time to jump in.

For the Facemelting Solos comic strip I wanted to document actual things that have happened to me on- and off- stage (my main job is playing guitar). People at rock shows are weird, and sometimes the people playing the music are weirder. It just feels right to lampoon myself. And I swear to embellish only as much as a laugh requires. Now to finish that last buffer comic...

MY inspiration that makes me to make comics is my life. all of my experience, sweetness and bitterness. darkest hour and best part of my life is the source of the story of my comics. it;'s kinda a diary in a form of imaginary stories and fiction.

For me, inspiration came from a lot of things, especially for Crosser's Gate.

Mainly, it was Silent Hill, for it's creepy psychologically disturbing world. The premise of a twisted dark domain always did had a lasting effect on me. I'm a real horror fan, so it's really my thing. To add to that is Hellraiser, I think the gore part comes from there.

Then there was DmC: Devil may Cry, whom I really admired for it's limbo concept, plus of course, hardcore action.

Other inspirations came from Persona 3, Resident Evil, Purgatory by Dante, The Ring and a bunch of horror movies all over, haha. I''ve been a gamer for quite a long time, so yeah.

My inspirations for Echo were mythical/historical figures of some warrior women, such as Joan of Arc and Mulan, also some simple philosophy about order and balance (like the yin and yang).
For the art, I've been inspired by a lot of things, a lot from fantasy videogame (who said Fire Emblem and Golden Sun?), and weapons/armors from our world and films. Maybe some Ghibli movies...
Also done from researches about architecture and fashion for Mediterrannean and Asian countries. I guess it counts ?

My inspiration for my comics are usually really bad puns or dry humor, but if I had to really think about it, I guess Calvin and Hobbes comics would be inspiration for my comics!

For my published comic "Moonlit Dawn: A Mythical Tale", I was inspired by the books "The Sight" and "Fell" from David Clement-Davies. Both books are about magical wolves. Wolf's Rain and Princess Mononoke also had a hand in it. And Celtic Mythology kinda helped build the atmosphere and inspired me to create my own lore and such.

For Between the Realms, I was always reading books on "the only vampire/werewolf" or where their numbers were really few. This inspired me to think "What if the role was reversed? What would happen if there was a last human among fantasy creatures?" Thus, BtR happened.

Probaly my biggest inspiration would be all the great superhero cartoons of the 90's and late 2000's. Stuff like Batman, Superman, and Spectacular Spider-Man. I just love how they could still do great adult stories with a simple cartoony look (for as much nostalgia I have for 90's Spider-Man, I can't stand the over muscular and choppy look of it). They're just so much more colorful and expressive then the movies and some of the comics. An some of the fight scenes, escpecailly Spectacular Spider-Man, have influenced my own. A lot of mainstream comics are going more cartoony, so there's inspiration there too.

I'm also a huge fan of Disney and Nintendo so there must be bits and pieces from them in my comics, but it's probably very subtle. I will say that one of my main characters "Sleepy Bear" is based in look by old Mickey Mouse cartoons. Also my character's costume might be green because of Link and Luigi

And even though 10-year old me would;ve hated to admit it, Anime has also inspirared portions of my stuff (mostly hair machinery designs).

Plenty of stories and authors inspired me before I made my comic, but who really threw me over the edge was Ishida Sui with Tokyo Ghoul. I cannot get enough of that damn manga and story, and it was one of those things like, "why am I not writing this too?"
