What's in common with the daily snacks?

Anyone seen any correlation of how people get their work shown as a daily snack?
Curious if it's number of views or subscribers or anything they have in common.

I think part of it is luck-if a staff member notices your comic, you might get picked.

I used to think that you needed to have a long first episode to get featured in the DS (if you have a story based webcomic rather than one-shot gags) but apparently if you get noticed you can just clump the first couple of episodes together from there.

Views and subscribers don't really matter here - I've seen series with pretty much 20 subs get on the daily snack. It's all about the content.

Don't give up! Keep working on your comic. I've been working on mine for 2 months and suddenly I got noticed. It may take some people longer than others, but I think everyone has an equal shot at getting featured in the DS.

I could've sworn the Daily Snack is chosen with an algorithm. Like you get enough subs/likes/etc. In a short amount of time to get you past trending + popular and onto the snack. My comic appeared on it a day or two after it was chosen for New & Noteworthy.

Though I've heard condensing your first few episodes together does increase your chances of being chosen for most things, including daily snack, so who' knows if there's still some staff involvement.

I believe that staff sources the daily snack comics from Trending usually. So it's somewhat based on an algorithm.

The snacks I get are comics in genres I'm not interested in at all -.-. I think that only premium comics are noted in the snacks though.

Less populair comics are hardly supported or seen by the staff.

This is not true. There is A featured new-and-noteworthy section, the trending algorithm is harsher to more established comics (it divides views, likes, comments and new subscribers by your CURRENT subscriber count, meaning it takes less attention to reach trending for a new comic) spotlight regularity features new longform comics and daily snack features short-forms. And anyone can apply to make a premium comic.

Tapastic does A LOT to support new creators.

I hardly notice this support. Not only for my comics since I don't get them from advertising on Tapas but on social media instead. I always see the same comics that are trending. Always the same populair ones, always the same comics in the new and noteworthy that gets like 100 subs in 5 seconds of time.

My point is : people that can draw less well as other creator don't get to reach the trending or homepage at all. While their story can be just as interested. Art isn't anything. Alot people don't scroll 'till the bottom.

The daily snack is NOT an algorithm, it is hand picked and occasionally even has a theme.
If you get a daily snack, a staff member will mostly inform you about it via PM beforehand.

A lot of it is luck of being discovered by staff, but both small and big creators have been in the daily snacks so it doesn't appear to be directly related to subs, views, or anything like it. In fact the daily snack is one of the many ways in which Tapas promotes small artists!

The notion that the daily snack only features short form is also false! They have promoted many long forms. However, it may feel like they don't if you post page by page. If you post long form, resort your first few chapters into a few larger updates, and it will raise your chances of ending up in the daily snack. The daily snack promotes and links to specific episodes, and when it comes to long form they often promote the first episode, so that is the episode in question that needs to have enough content, and be enjoyable in a contained piece, so that it will be share-worthy.

That's a good thing. That means only the series that deserve it get attention. Comics are a synthesis of art and writing, they are equally important and are intertwined and inseparable. If you want to be judged on your writing quality alone, write a novel.

Everything @LordVincent said is correct. My series is a long form comic that has been in the Daily Snack a couple of times now, and the first time it was offered, I was contacted and requested to combine my first 10 episodes into one.
Not much else to say, Vincent pretty much covered it ahah. Just confirming the claims since I've experienced everything he stated personally.

I can't write at all so I don't bother writing a book but comics aren't only to be judged on art. But sadly alot people only look at them that way.

they seem to prefer one off episode type comics. my rarely updated comedy comic got one on its first strip where my actually nice looking one was only featured because i was in the winter event (which was a one off strip too)

I'm not very experienced, but I think posting often does help. Getting in the fresh section frequently does kind of give you an advantage.

If it's at all meaningful to the conversation at this point, my recent Snack feature was from my newest book that at the time:

-Was 16 days old
-Had 4 episodes
-Had just over 200 views
-Had 26 subs

I treat this as just being lucky.

I have six books on Tapas and this is the first to get to the Snack for use in a theme of Horror that they were going for. I wasn't contacted and was pretty shocked at the sudden increase in activity.

I treat all success as luck, being a writer. Screaming into the wind has gotten me noticed by a decent amount of people for my work on here and Amazon, but I was lucky enough to be noticed by the staff and determined to be good enough to promote.
