As part of my progression module at college, and to get into university a year from now, I have to make a portfolio and/or blog for my best work. This'll be both fine art and comic work. With college I've set up a flickr and I'm... getting there with a wix, but there's so many options

what portfolio sites do you think make the best impression? what ones are easiest to work with?

also, what information should i include for appealing to universities, and advertising myself as a cartoonist?

Also, feel free to link your online portfolio  i'd love to see peoples different approaches

I use Carbonmade and pay a small fee each month to be able to upload a certain number of projects to the site. It's very easy to use and fairly customizable.

Own hosting. Mostly it is for a small price. I pay like €19 each year for a host and link. Otherwise if you can't afford that, I'd say Wordpress. Or http://www.webs.com/8. I've had a free website there for at least 10 years. I did all completely on html, creating a unique portfolio. You can also use a templete if your not familair with coding . I left them because they stopped supporting javascript on free accounts.

It's a blog/ portfolio in progress :).

I've been using Wix, and it is pretty customisable and easy to use.
You can build a very appealing image layout with it, so it looks pretty professional. If you've got good assets and a defined colour palette it looks very polished.
Mine below for reference.

oooh i like how you present your comic, ive been worried abt how to do that without taking up too much space

Own hosting is definately the best option, as you can customize and tailor the site to your needs...but you need someone able to create a website from zero. Hosting itself can be cheap, but making the website is not (unless you are able to do it or willing to learn...or if you have a friend that can help you)

In alternative, Artstation is currently the most professional looking of the various online portfolio options. Behance is also good, but it's a bit more sterile and a bit focused on some kinds of arts. Deviantart used to have an awesome portfolio option that would allow you to create a website outside of DA (which I'd not suggest to use for a newcomer that has to look professional)

I use Wix for my portfolio and it's super easy to navigate. I assume that some of the paid website builders are ideal, but if you're looking for something free that doesn't require any coding type stuff, Wix is pretty cool.

Here's my portfolio if you wanna check it out:

With regards to making your own site vs using a hosting service, if you don’t have the time or skills to make your own, some free hosts will let you use your own domain name, which is a cheap way to make it look more professional.

oh my gosh, great job! I love the design.:heart:

I have to go back and look at it in full (i only clicked around), but it looks very professional.

Hey.. for what its worth, I use https://crevado.com/6 for my online Portfolio - they have free or paid plans. They have an examples page that you might like to check out for some inspiration/ideas etc: https://crevado.com/examples3 . I have had a very positive experience with them, setup was quick and the available themes are really nice, easy to use and great customer service - so far so good for me

@mileshonor @punkarsenic HOLY JEEZUS, I JUST TRIED TO MAKE A WEBSITE FOR A GALLERY USING WIX AND BY GOD, I AM SUPERBLY HAPPY WITH IT!!! I'm just so happy 'cause I've been trying to find a website for DAYS to host some of my art, and I didn't feel comfortable enough yet with the ones I found (which there are some great ones out there, but meh), so after running out of options I come back here in Tap after not being able to log in at all due to IRL stuff for the last two months, and boy oh boy, the forums saved me in the form of both of you! Thanks a lot!

Lesson learned; I am totally keeping Tap's forums open for my browser all the time.

EDIT: Shiznit, I forgot to add the link to my site, lulz (was too excited). Here you go guys, for anyone interested : https://tyroneblehh.wixsite.com/tfotc/gallery16 (btw, just close the tab after you go through the gallery - there isn't a lot of stuff there yet, but I will be uploading a lot more soon after finishing the first pages of my comic and publishing. Enjoy :D) (P.S. I highly recommend going fullscreen while browsing through my stuff to properly take in all the details, and hey, leave a like on a piece you like so I know some of you guys visited. And thanks a lot to any who have! Peace :))

I use wix! But there's also weebly, wordpress, squarespace adobe portfolio, etc. It's all about which one works for you the best!
