What's the first manga/webcomic/comic/graphic novel you've ever read?

Hey guys! I don't know if this forum has been made yet but I was just wondering what was the first graphic novel you've ever read, what it's about, what the genre was, if you liked it and if that was the one that got you started to get into comics and all the rest.

It can be anything, from manga to manhwa and from comics to webcomics.

I'll start off with mine. My first manga that I've ever read was Marmalade Boy by Wataru Yoshizumi. It's shoujo and it was about a girl's parents getting divorced, getting married to other people and then living with four parents and falling in love with her stepbrother while her stepbrother tries to find out who his real father is! And yes I loved it so much it was my gatewat drug to the manga/anime life. OTL

The first manga I read seriously was Shaman King! It was my gateway drug into manga and comics. lol
I actually watched the dubbed anime first on Fox Kids and then saw a classmate reading it at school. I was like, oh yeah, there's those things called manga. Since I like Shaman King, maybe I should check out its comic. Then I got my mom to take me to Borders, bought the first volume and I never looked back!

My first western comic I ever read was a Scooby-Doo full colored comic when I was about 5 or 6 years old. It was also my first comic I ever owned and I wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps of owning a bunch of comics since our garage was basically full of boxes filled with his comics lol!!

However as I got older I was introduced to manga and I loved them immediately. I would say the first manga series I got serious about was "Rebirth" by Lee Kang-woo.

Synopsis: Three hundred years ago the Dark Magician Deshwitat Lived Rudbich, a vampire, was sealed in limbo by the Light Magician Kalutika. Resurrected in the present day, Deshwitat has vowed to destroy Kalutika, and now, with the help of a team of spiritual warriors, seeks the means to use Light Magic to achieve his ends.

First webcomic? I think that was Go-Gurly, a funny webcomic about lesbians. I don't know if it's updated anymore, I haven;t read it in years but I used to read it every week :'D

Oh wow, I remember Shaman King! I watched the anime and though that that was intense! I wanted to read the whole series but then I knew what the ending was so I lost interest XD

When you saw you're friend reading it did you think, "WAIT YOU CAN READ ANIME?????" Or was it just more like, "Ah yes, manga" kind of reaction?

Wow, Rebirth sounds a little bit like Noblesse! I'll go and check it out. And Go-Gurly sounds interesting too, I'll check it out!

Haha, well I was aware of manga in general because I saw it before then, but I never thought I'd actually read it. Also I highly recommend reading Shaman King's manga the Kanzenban/Perfect Edition if you can find it. The anime cut it short and characters and events differ between the two.

Ah yes, the old, "read manga owned by someone else and then get hooked" drug. Ah yes, I know it well. You get side effects like, crying over the feels, squeeling and the most fatal of all, getting into the manga/anime life. When supplemented by doses of Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon this becomes fatal and you can never escape the manga/life

XD (That said, those are some pretty good gateway drugs!)

Ah I see and yes I will read the Kanzenban/Perfect Edition when I have the time! I didn't realise that making comics would take up so much of my time but I was wrong. Drawing in boxes is hard OTL

I started watching anime though and was pretty shocked when I found out about manga. It's like...discovering that books exist and the movie you watched came from a book haha.

Ooooh, I don't know about comic, it was definitely something out of the newspaper... Marmaduke stands out and those military guys (I don't know the names of the popular ones, it's been so long)... GARFIELD, haha^^

My first manga was probably... Shugo Chara? Either that or D.N. Angel.

Dragon Ball! When I heard that the anime was based on a comic I really wanted to read it, but it was weird at first. Black&white and reading right to left was something I had to get used to. Now I love the b&w manga style and I actually have to remind myself to read in western direction Though DB wasn't exactly the manga that cemented my wish to become an artist it was definitely the start. Say what you want about the plot of DB/the art style/ the characters etc, but you still have to admit Akira Toriyama knew how put action into panels.

Ooooh, boy, this is gonna be a list!

First comic - Asterix. Can't remember if it was the one where they join the Roman army, or the one where they travel around France to collect cool food and wine, but yeah. My mom used to read Asterix for us as bedtime stories.

First manga - the first volume(s) of Dragonball. It was the only thing available in my corner of the world when I was a kid. I never really enjoyed it much, but at least it was better than the second manga I read, Love Hina. And it did open my eyes to a brand new world of comics.

First graphic novel - this one's a bit harder to pinpoint, but I think the first proper graphic novel I read was Watchmen. I was waaaay too young to really get it the first time I read it (it was my brother's copy, I just picked it up from where he'd left it lying around).

First webcomic - way back in the foggy days of yore (16 years ago), my brother told me I should read Penny Arcade. So I did. And it was all downhill into a swamp of webcomic addiction ever since.

I cant remember the first graphic novel I read but the first manga I read was naruto bak when I was still a naruto fan

The first comic I ever read was probably the Donald Duck comic (the issues were released biweekly in the stores, then switched to weekly) and ever since then I've bought a lot of these. I think it was the major trigger that got me into comics in general. The first manga I ever read... well I can't remember, but I remember the first one that I was able to buy. It was The Mythical Detective Loki in German language.

First comic: Not including comic strips in the newspaper, Spawn and X-men probably (I would read it when I was way too young to read it when I went to visit my cousins) First comics I owned for myself was random issues of Sonic the Hedgehog.

First manga: I think it may have been either Ranma 1/2 or Card Captor Sakura (I was too young to be reading Ranma also)

First manhwa: Ragnarok for sure, I'm not much into manhwa too much.

First webcomic: Honestly, who knows, those poor things get re-blogged / uploaded / stolen and unsorced so much I got no idea who made it, what series it was from or where it came from. For more of a story driven one (that wasn't a BL, everyone kept giving me BL links =_=) probably 'Minor Acts of Heroism' or 'Lackadaisy'

being the last born of four brothers most of what i got as a kid were hand me downs so as a guess ( because were talking over 40 years ago here) my first comic was probably a copy of Eagle. it had lots of war stories that my big brother use to love. when i got to an age where I could buy my own comics I was into a British comic called the Beano and batman. in my teens it became Judge Dredd.
to be honest before I joined Tapastic I never really read other peoples comics for fear of subconsciously using other peoples ideas. so I think the first web comic was one of the ones on my reading list.

however my first manga movie watched was Ninja Scroll

Ah yes, I love Garfield! I love Garfield's sarcasm and everytime I read it I always wondered "When will Jon get a date?"

Never heard of Shugo Chara but Definitely D.N.Angel! I was so in love with Dark when I was a 12 year old. I thought, "they can't get any better than this" But then I met webcomics and here I am now haha

One Piece from Genius Oda was the first manga I read.
I already knew the anime watching it on tv, but After discovering a small manga/ comicbook section in the local library I read it for the first time....I'm not quite sure but it was somewhere in the Arlong-Arc...
It was shortly followed by Magic Kaito from Gosho Aoyama

Wow these are all great titles! I've read Penny Arcade and it was the drug that kept me going but my first webcomic was called Blindsprings by Kadi Fedoruk (It's like Disney plus social issues plus magic)

And I never got into Love Hina but I love Negima which was made by the same creator. Negima got me hooked on to the fantasy manga life and well.. I haven't met a comic like Negima since.
