What's your favorite bad-ass female character?

God I hate the term "bad-ass". Sounds like something people would call themselves in an American reality show.

Anyway, back to topic. I would have to say that my favourite female lead at the moment is the new Lara Croft.
Despite being rightfully terrified, she still presses forward and overcome challenges. That says a lot more to me than some sociopath that feels no fear or remorse.

In the same vein, I love Chihiro from Spirited away. The way she faced fears and did what she needed to do to save her parents.

Prior to that, maybe Alita from Battle Angel or Deunan from Appleseed.

Loved Tomb Raider, gotta get the sequel. Though some people say her ruthlessness in gameplay was totally at odds with her character, I didn't think it was that jarring. Maybe if they work in some PTSD in the next one it will seem more believable.

@eslameldeeb You beat me to it....yessss, Furiosa!! Forever! I have a big crush on her, and/or want to be her.

I've been on a HUGE, HUUUUUUGE Game of Thrones kick lately. Almost done all the books, finished the new season, am re-watching from the first season (I watch a LOT of tv while I ink). There's no shortage of incredible lady characters, but Brienne still takes the cake for me, because she starts out as tough but super self conscious, and she slowly grows into comfort with herself. She was always a badass and the toughest knight...

I love Lisbeth Salander because she's socially inept, described as being a bit ugly and is totally ruthless yet ultimately does the right thing. I think the Millenium trilogy of books was the first time I read about a somewhat super powered woman who was a love interest without feeling like a sex object for a hero. I like her character because she always does things on her own terms, and always got brutal revenge on people who hurt her or others in need. Maybe not the best real life model, but definitely a character I've really related to.

My favourite female character is Haruhi from Ouran Host Club but if she has to be battle-ready, then Izumi Kurtis from Fullmetal Alchemist. "Just a passing housewife," she says while taking down bears and supernatural creatures.

Man if we just list GoT ladies we'd be here all day. I guess if I had to pick a second to Brienne, it has to be Arya Stark.

She has come so far. It amazes me.

Then I guess you gotta go Daenerys Stormborn. Dragons immediately make you badass though. XD

I would have to agree with Nausicaa. The anime really changed my life, I remember seeing it as a little girl way back in the day. I mean here you have a princess that was nothing like the Disney Princesses. She was strong, confident, caring and could hold her own in a battle. I always wanted her glider as a kid, still do to be honest.

I know, It was breathtaking seeing it for the first time in Animage back in the day.

There were so few good female role models back then so it really threw me and encouraged me. I wanted to create something like that... well I could never draw something that detailed in pencil, but creating strong role models for people to enjoy and relate to resonated strongly in me even back then.
