Wow, good on you for bringing up The Boss from MGS3. It's one of those characters you tend to forget about, probably because of just having a single outing in a game and because of the MGS-series not exactly being known for powerful female characters!

As for me, there are so many that have already been brought up in this thread. I love Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist. Mikasa and Annie from Attack on Titan. Furiosa, Buffy, Liv from iZombie, several from GoT.

But my number one favourite and probably my first crush since I was a kid:

She's cool, powerful, calculating and hidden inside a metal encased suit. But she's still able to show compassion and evoke emotions from just a glance and her actions.

This comes especially from her outings in Zero Mission, Fusion and the Prime-series. Man, I was head over heels ever for Samus ever since the first Metroid game on the NES even though I didn't realize she was a woman til that end scene...

Don't even talk to me about (the story and portrayal of Samus) in Other M though. We will not have a good time...

I've been enjoying Carol Danver's stint as Captain Marvel since it started back in 2012. Now she's the head of a Star Trek-like protection station (which is cool 'cause I love Star Trek as well). It is a shame that I'm mostly against her in the new Civil War 2 (though Tony Stark is not making it easy to side with him).

I do really recommend picking it up though. It's funny, serious when it needs to be, weird, and drawn amazingly. Her introduction flim to the MCU is my 2nd most anticipated Marvel movie (behind Spider-Man: Homecoming, of course).

Definitely Oscar Francois de Jarjayes. Besides being the most influential manga character in history, she's all out genderole breaking (genderfluid.. so still a girl!) badass commander of the French and Royal guards. Also her genderfluidity allowed shoujo comics to have, like... all the lesbian characters. Basically the reason male roles/expectations by women who are still better women in manga is popular..
She was she 12-20 ish in the manga. Besides the fact that she has compassion, sense of duty and justice, she shows a fighting spirit and understanding. She basically wins your respect in the manga and anime time and time again with her combat skills but more notably her maturity for someone who isn't that old

One for the villains! I LOVE Ma-Ma from the new Judge Dredd movie. I did not think I'd like it at all, that kinda macho hyperviolence really isn't my scene....and it's become one of my favourite movies. The acting is SO GOOD, and Ma-Ma is TERRIFYING and brutal.

I totally think the reason I wound up loving Judge Dredd SO much was because it's actually very feminist, and I thought it was going to be terrible and dismissive of it's female cast. They're amazing! Ma-Ma and Cersei are two different kinds of crazy. Ma-Ma is straightforward cut-throat planning, but Cersei at least STARTED out subtly evil, a colder kind of manipulative....

I don't know about favourite, but I remember thinking Anna from "Shaman King" was the most kick-ass lady while growing up.
