What's your opinion on storytime animation?

I know this doesn't relate to comics that much.

I've liked the genre for many years now, but I'm realizing that it's becoming kind of stale. What do you think of it? I think there are some unique ones, like Eroldstory, Tabbes, and Scribblejuice. But there are also ones that are way too similar to each other, like BrodyAnimates, Haminations, Chillypanda, etc.

I never really liked the genre because I think it's in general that same Jontron-esque rapid image, meme reaction stuff that is very popular in video essays and other types of content. Sometimes the videos are good, but it feels like the more animation the video has, the less interesting it becomes for me.

I might just be getting old...

I enjoy them for what they are and it seems like a very warm community but I mostly see them as an occasional snack, I eat occasionally. Just good safe entertainment and deserve their place regardless

I don't really watch the genre, because.. Quite frankly, a lot of it is just lighthearted entertainment with little substance. Which is fine to enjoy, but that's just not for me at the moment.

I'll say this much about it. Storytime animations have kinda revitalized the animation landscape for YouTube in a way. I know there was a time where animators were really struggling to make content because the algorithms started wanted creators to be making 10-minute videos constantly. And if there's anything to know about animation, it's that it can take months to make a few minutes worth of content. This type of expectation from the platform nearly killed the genre for these guys, but people started minimizing the workload by cutting corners where they could by simplifying character designs and reducing the overall amount of frames necessary, and well.. That's basically the new wave of internet animation right there. A space between animations and animatics where people could actually start producing content at a steady pace again.

I'm not really a fan, but boy, you just can't ignore that type of impact that storytime animations had on the scene!

I used to watch them fairly often before my interests shifted but they're fun to look at from time to time. I used to tune into folks like Domics and Jaiden for those "storytime" videos but I'd have to say that animation memes wound up gaining my attention a bit more especially if the quality of animation or style grabbed my interest.

There's a lot more than just storytime animation but it is a pretty easy formula if you've got interesting or funny enough stories to tell. I'm actually surprised animation folks haven't attempted something akin to the Vtuber style of videos but maybe that'd be more work

I absolutely hate the My Story Animated and the hundred of other similar channels. They are made in content farms and designed to be clickbate for teens yet feature stories that are wildly inappropriate content. A lot the time they are made overseas, so the English is weird like it was sent through a Google translator. I wish YT would do something about them because most of them are owned by the same company and they are sort of taking advantage of the system.

Love them, but only JaidenAnimations, TheOddd1sOut, Domics, and Swoozie (sometimes Tabbes). I really watch any of the other bigger channels. I'm an avid watcher, been watching for years and enjoy the personalities of those I do watch. I'm glad that most of them now can a afford team to animate so they are able to produce higher quality animation.
As for the "my story animated" clones, other than the original one that actually outreached real children so they can tell their stories, their clickbaity trash. I'm subbed to this other channel named Jarvis Johnson who has done a multitude of videos discussing the shady and ridiculousness behind these content farms. But yea, that's how I feel.

Well for the most part, they same pretty legit. (By that I mean the more prominent members of that community AKA Let Me Explain Stuidos, Jaidenanimations, Oddonesout, ect.) I really do enjoy Jaiden's escapades with Pokemon. It really makes me feel like I'm back in the early 2000's. Overall, some are good some are bad. Nuff said.
