I don't really watch the genre, because.. Quite frankly, a lot of it is just lighthearted entertainment with little substance. Which is fine to enjoy, but that's just not for me at the moment.
I'll say this much about it. Storytime animations have kinda revitalized the animation landscape for YouTube in a way. I know there was a time where animators were really struggling to make content because the algorithms started wanted creators to be making 10-minute videos constantly. And if there's anything to know about animation, it's that it can take months to make a few minutes worth of content. This type of expectation from the platform nearly killed the genre for these guys, but people started minimizing the workload by cutting corners where they could by simplifying character designs and reducing the overall amount of frames necessary, and well.. That's basically the new wave of internet animation right there. A space between animations and animatics where people could actually start producing content at a steady pace again.
I'm not really a fan, but boy, you just can't ignore that type of impact that storytime animations had on the scene!
