When’s the appropriate time to start a ko-fi? (Edited, new question!)

How many subs would you think appropriate before starting a kofi or something for your project?

I might have one set up in the near future, but only because family issues and expenses. Whatever donations I get (I’m not looking for anything crazy, just some spare change you know) would go towards that/commissioning art for my novel so y’all could enjoy.

If I set up a kofi, I could do extra chapters too as a reward. I don’t know. How long until it would be appropriate to set up a kofi?

EDIT New question: Where is a good place to have your ko-fi linked? I'll make a promo post eventually, but should I also create a new chapter just with that info?

Pretty much any time! You never know who is going to donate, could be your first reader or your 100th. So it's good to have that ko-fi link there live and ready.

100% agree with this. It can take a while to grow on Ko-Fi so do it when you feel ready. ^^

One thing I do for a lot of my friends is when I have chance I click like on other people's ko-Fi posts. I'm Poor as Heck Baskets so anything donated to me I keep, but I can spare a like when I get chance ^^. Feel free to promote it in the promotions section, i've seen some people do that in the past.
