When to use the "Mature" content warning

Hi everyone!

I am fairly new here as I made an account only last month, and started uploading last week.

I was looking for feedback regarding when to use the "Mature" content warning - I did read the Terms and Conditions and the Content Boundaries but was still wondering.

All my comics contains four panels, and each time it features a cartoon version of me attempting suicide within the walls of my office job (which I hated but where I no longer work so woop woop for that!), with a friend and colleague stopping me each time and telling me "no".
It is never graphic but the content itself is a bit dark I suppose?

I'll upload a comic so you guys can have an idea (hopefully I don't fail in doing so, first time using the forum).

Anyway, thanks a lot for reading, and please let me know what you think! So far I have been using the "Mature" warning for each of them to be on the safe side, but I don't know if it's warranted here or not.

I don't think you need the mature tag on all the episodes, since there is no gore and she's not even dead yet.
I would however put a disclaimer/warning in the series description and at the top of the first episode that the gags deal with contemplations of suicide.

Yeah I don't get how you would need a content warning at all for any of this. Dark humor like this has been in pg and g rated cartoons for years. Reminded there was a fairly odd parents episode where timmy was willing to mutilate his arm just get away from his stalker. This stuff isn't gory or violent, no need to worry lol

As much I adore how ridiculously violent or deviant cartoon can be - since this is my own material and I had to comply to the rules of the website - I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

The only time the filter needs to be used is during graphic violence and sexual nudity. In the end, the maturity filter is more of an extreme, the idea that something in your work goes beyond the normal expectation of the readers. When I'm working on something and someone's getting punched, I'm not going to filter that. I'm not going to filter when someone says "fuck" or "shit" or "bitch." I wouldn't do it for even stronger language. I wouldn't put a filter on basic nudity, because it's always possible to express nudity without both showing explicit details or making it sexual.

In the end, I expect a sort of level of maturity from the readers of Tapas and I expect them to be old enough not to freak out when someone uses a bit of harsh language, or a little bit of blood is shown, or dear lord, that person's butt is showing...without pants...how scandalous!

Dark Comedy is not filter worthy and there's no reason for you to use it. I sometimes see people use the filter and its' for things like a little blood or a tiny bit of language. It's like, come on people, your audience isn't that immature.

Basically have it on a rating of;"Would you show someone who is 10 this?".

Sure, some swearing's ok for them. They've probably heard it at school or their parent going;"Damn!" if they stub their toe. That happens.

But any incredible amount of blood or such, that is where I'd cross the line.

I'd put the Mature content warning over anything that has:
Excessive Blood/Gore
Nudity
Excessive and extreme violence
Potentially offensive
Dark (ie that suicide thing you posted)

Does nudity involve butts because I'm not sure if it's that severe to put mature content. right?

I'd only tag a nude butt as mature if it was featured prominently on the page, like if it took up 1/4 to the full page.

Is it completely nude? Is it being presented in a sexual manner? Yes.
Is there underwear? Not being presented sexually? Not really
Example: My page below doesn't need an nsfw tag

It's not the focus of the page, its still partially clothed. NSFW tag not necessary

As many have said I wouldn't use the filter for this.

I personally would also use the filter for potentially triggering scenes, but I don't see how those would be a problem in a dark comedy like yours.

Because I was so new to the site, I wasn't quite sure what the Tapas audience was like to begin with. But I agree with you with the level of maturity here.

I get that! I was genuinely wondering for my content as it is perfectly okay as it is not shocking or gory, but I don't know if I would want to explain that to my nephew.

"And see, it's funny cause I really wanted to kill myself!"

Although obviously my point is that I get rescued every time.

This is very interesting discussion to be had, but the child in me is still smiling at the fact we need to rate the severity of the butt. "Is it mature content heavy?"
