Where do people start?

Hey - something occurred to me, hopefully I can explain what I mean..

If you're discovering a 'daily gag' style comic on Tapas for the first time (i.e. not a comic with an ongoing narrative), where do you tend to start reading? I've realised that I still tend to zip all the way back to the start of the comic, even though this may mean I'm a waaaay behind the artist's current stuff and might not be reading their best stuff. What do other people do - start with the recent stuff and work back? Go all the way to the start? Choose a random comic a few months back and start there? Jump about randomly?

Just wondering!

If I find it engaging and fun I also go all the way back to the beginning and read from there ^^

i mostly start at the beginning however some comics you dont need too such as gag a day it's personal choice really

I definitely follow suit with your method!

When I found Slack Wyrm on a random post on (Twitter, I think? Somewhere...) I searched for it on Webtoon, and started from #1...even though the first 40 or so were in black and white! And I still loved almost every single episode.

It's interesting how daily gag comics that don't typically have a continuing storyline still benefit from reading oldest to newest releases. Not sure why that is, but love it all the same!

Cheers folks. Yeah that's what I kinda figured. But I realised that it could mean if somebody had a comic that started poorly then got good later, potential readers might continue to be put off as they'd always be coming to the less good 'early stuff' when making their decision about whether to read more.

Or, to put it another way, it could mean however much you improve over time you're still relying on your earliest stuff to ensnare readers!

I'm not really going anywhere with these wonderings, just sharing

I start with the last one then go backward to dozen to jauge it and if I like it, I go to the beginning.

I like to see how the art has grown in every episode, so I check the last and then I go to the first

If you check "Bluechair", Shen (the artist) changed his style so many times that is so interesting to watch. It started with flat and lineless then it kept changing until he decided to do with lineart

I usually look at the few most recent episodes, and if I like it, I zip all the way to the beginning and read it all

Something like Gag comics can start anywhere! (Unless the artist decides to take the gag series in a type of "story arc" or something). But its often fun to start anywhere whether in the beginning, middle, or end, but also more fun to see it all from the beginning!
