Where/when should I post bonus content?

I'm curious to hear what you guys think about this. For context:

• I'm working on a three-page comic that's about an important event in my villain's backstory. My final assignment in my illustration class is to do that, so I figured, why not make it part of the comic I already have? Well, sort of.
• I'm planning on going on a month-long hiatus after I finish chapter 1, just so I can take a quick break and try to stave off any burnout.

So, I'd like to post that little comic at some point, and if I ever do any more bonus material (not sure what that would be at the moment, possibly more mini-comics), I'd like to share those too. The question is: when do you think is a good time to do that? Should I post the bonus content on my social media and just link back to the main comic, or should I post it on the actual comic sites? (I have a ComicFury that I consider the main site, plus mirrors here on Tapas and on Tumblr). Should I post it as a little hiatus treat, or should I hold onto it for... I don't know, a rainy day? If you do bonus content for your comic, I'd love to hear how you handle it.

Ooooo, haikus treats are nice to keep up engagement.

I held off for so long on doing the fun/bonus stuff (my comic was going to be serious), but as time went on, shedding that notion and putting in more fun/bonus content was just a fun way to catch the vibe of my readers. Since you'll be done with the first chapter soon anyhow, I think you have a lot of options in including it with mainline comic (as well as posting it elsewhere). A lot of my favorite series take a breath and do some bonus stuff between chapters (or wherever they please (holidays, etc), so I wouldn't overthink it, or worry about it. As long as it fits in with your own personal guidelines for what you want your comic to be, go for it!
