Which cover is more appealing?

I kinda prefer the old one. It has a more warm feel to it. And the text is more visible against the darker background.

To be frank, if i look at the two covers without knowing the story i would not be able to tell that they are for the same story

Definitely the first one, and I agree with @DualDragons, they look like they came from completely different genre. The first is really fantasy looking, the second is...eh, romance or/and erotic or something.
Was the first picture commissioned from someone else?

The first one definitely looks like a Fantasy genre cover and gives the vibe it's about a young boy.
The second one looks like contemporary Erotica or Adult Romance due to both the shirtless adult man and the tape.

Very different vibes, both are appealing covers, so I think your genre should be the deciding factor here. If I was looking for fantasy I probably wouldn't click the latter, and vice versa if I was looking for Adult Romance.

The first artwork isn't mine, which is actually the reason I had to make my own. I tried to get into contact with the creator, but he/she is already inactive.

Ah definitely switch then, inactive isn't an adequate reason to take someone else's art I'm afraid.
And the new cover looks really fresh, so work with that.

I just wonder is a new one is someone's art painted over?.. Is it? Maybe it would be better to commission someone? Or stick to the good ol' letters on nice background?

Yeah, that's really a bad action I've made there. I got so used to the Wattpad system, I've ended up stealing other people's work without consideration. Anyways, thanks a lot for the advice, guys.

But you arise a curious question on my mind over this cover subject. Is it really wrong to have someone else art on your comic's cover (not stealing of course LOL). Let's say you use it as social media/marketing tactic to promote your own comic?
