Who else avoids feet?

Feet are a pain, I always seem to have a problem with tops of arms too, the elbowy bit and the forearm, it takes me a few attempts to get them vaguely decent

Feet are fine, it's just cos when you look at a character, you want to look at their face mostly. Hands are more of a nightmare than feet...

Feet are just like anything else, if you break them down into simple shapes they get easier to draw. Also the more you draw them the quicker they'll come to you.

I actually found that drawing bare feet a few times helped me get better at drawing feet in shoes?

I actually really enjoy drawing feet and I love drawing legs. I prefer drawing those rather than hands or arms.
There are things I hate drawing but I'm not going to avoid them just because I'm not good at it or hate drawing it.

Well, usually I draw them in poses where the feet wouldn't show in the panel... that's mostly it. It's not often I get to draw fullbody character shots, and usually they're shown from the head and down... not giving much room to draw the feet.

It's not just getting the feet themselves right, it's also the shape of the shoe... Bare feet (or even just in socks) are a whole other chapter, good thing my characters wear shoes.

I used to have a problem with hands and fingers. And thus I unconsciously hide them away in my drawings. The characters are either putting their hands behind their back or into their pockets. But then I challenged myself to draw more and more hands to the point nowadays I'm quite comfortable drawing them. I imagine it would be the same to feet... since yeah I do have problem with drawing bare feet. But since I have been doing a lot of fullbody art (for adoptables) it helps out a lot > v < /all the struggle when my designs usually don't include shoes LMFAO

My characters always wears shoes for travel since it's an adventure manga. But i think sooner if they take a bath scenes

I've noticed that especially when I've got characters having some sort of conversation, I put the focus on their faces/expressions! This tends to result in lots of panels where the focus is on the characters' upper bodies (to the exclusion of their legs/feet)!

(--which is unfortunate, because I LOVE DESIGNING SHOES. )

I admittedly avoid hands and feet... but I know I need to stop!! Practice is the only way to get better, and avoiding it doesn't solve anything. That being said, I do try to practice exercises a little bit so that way when I finally get good enough to draw and post stuff online, I can actually show my character's entire bodies instead of hiding them in convenient ways!

Now that you mention, I don't see a lot of leg/feet/hands shown in many of the comics I read either. For me personally, I don't have an issue with showing hands, legs and feet in my comics. As a matter of fact, I really enjoy drawing legs sort of! And considering my main female lead rarely wears shoes, I have to draw her bare feet and toes quite often. i've never even thought about legs and feet being something that's forbidden to some people xD.

I have no real problem with drawing shoes (since most of the time I just draw them as black lumps *sweats.)

But bare feet are a bit hard since they just aren't drawn often. I had to force myself to draw all five toes when I was younger.

Weirdly, I love drawing hands.

Am I weird to say that I actually find feet fascinating to draw?

To me, feet are an exciting challenge. Whenever I draw full-body stuff I often find feet the easiest part to draw compared to the legs. Maybe it's because feet don't have that much of a focus when it comes to drawing, except that they're the very things that make your characters connect to the backgrounds.

I often have trouble drawing shoes and boots though. Maybe it's just my lack of design, but I don't know some artists draw cool looking shoes.

I sketch great bare feet. Add shoes and everything falls apart. Generally I avoid feet and legs because that's where my proportions get the wonkiest. It's always been a problem for me. I would say the best foot I've ever drawn was in a comic not on tapastic, just a boot splashing down in a puddle of water. (Second panel of this comic). You'll notice the vast majority of panels in that comic do not feature feet heavily. That said, I'm actually pretty pleased with how the rest of them turned out...

Learn from the masters. The guy who painted the Raft of the Medusa did a great job hiding feet everywhere. Also, X-rays reveal scratch-that feet beneath the socks on the foreground.
