I'm not officially diagnosed, but I do struggle with mild depression and anxiety. I've only had a couple of full blown anxiety attacks, but they were definitely not awesome...
I love ASMR cooking videos. I watch honeykki, cook kafemaru, and a couple of others that I can't remember right now...
I also use noise generators like mynoise to help me sleep when I'm feeling anxious. (It also works really well when I'm writing. )
Physical exercise is good for releasing stress on a regular basis. The endorphins can be beneficial, but if you over work your system without fueling it right you can send your body into "fight or flight" which won't help your anxiety any.
I second the recommendation of herbal teas! Peppermint and ginger are good both for relaxation and for stomach troubles. I also like osmanthus, nettle, rooibos, and honeybush, among others. Basically...I just like tea. lol The process of making it is calming for me too.
On a similar note, have you ever tried scent therapy? Basically, you find a smell that makes you feel safe and/or relaxed, and when you start feeling anxious, you smell it. A couple of scents that work for a lot of people are lavender and vanilla. Also bright scents like citrus scents. I have a few scents that help me when I start feeling anxious, but when an attack gets close, one of my symptoms is that the air feels like it gets really thin and cold. I haven't had the presence of mind to try a scent at that point, so I can't tell you if it works for me or not. lol It does for everyday anxiety though.
As for what works when an attack gets close... the air gets thin and cold, and I feel like I can't breathe. My heart pounds and my stomach cramps. At that point, I try to warm the air I breathe by covering my mouth and nose with my hands. I tell myself everything is okay and try to stop thinking because thinking too much is usually what triggers my anxiety in the first place. If I can, I take myself somewhere dark and warm and use a noise generator for rain, thunder, and fireplace sounds. The louder the thunder the better. lol I pile a bunch of blankets and pillows on top of me for weight and try to slow my breathing to "normal." Usually, the attack subsides...
Don't know if any of this will help...
Hope everyone finds something safe and sustainable to help them through the difficult times.
