Joni, Nash and the siblings shielded their eyes from the light as it burst from the dying Owl. As they did, Joni couldn’t help but involuntarily protect their right hand from the light as well, their instincts telling them to do so, lest they wanted to lose another finger to what their brain was telling them was possibly another land mine.
Tabitha held Jack tight, squeezing her eyes shut to keep from going blind. She wondered if the next world would be any kinder than the ones the group had gone through already.
Even further into the factory, as he stormed in whatever direction the entrance might be in, Melvin found himself bathed in the light as well, somehow. At first he was confused, not knowing what to make of it. And then he was running, sprinting towards whatever door was nearest, in the hopes that it would lead to the way out before he could be engulfed in the light. But he wasn’t fast enough, and it wasn’t long before the interior of the factory gave way completely to the blinding white void.
