These are the two biggest influences in my style and I just eat up whatever they come up with...

Tomer Hanuka: His line work and use of color are to die for.

Est Em: My favorite mangaka, she packs so much expression into her lines.

my lord and saviour george kamitani i love love love his colouring style and designs he is my favourite.

hyung-tae kim: i just love his desaturated shading style. his character designs? not so much. but i just love him!!

alex ahad: i love how recognizable his style is and the fact that he draws weird shit and ive been following him since the days he had merely an inkling of skullgirls. it was cute to finally have him get paired up with someone who could actually program.

Massive, massive fan of Gobi (Baptiste Gaubert) and Bill Otomo! Their designs, their forms, their LIFE in even sketches is... it just gets your blood pumpin'. You see it and immediately lust hard for some kind of interaction -- to create or to know more about the creation.

Oh dang, my favorites tend to change a lot! But I've always been a big big fan of Anna Cattish and Tadahiro Uesugi.

I love Anna Cattish's playful and very expressive characters:

Kawase Hasui, who was ligne claire before Hergé had picked up a pen. Gorgeous colours, gorgeous lighting, beautiful lines.

Nicholas Kole, who is not only an amazing artist, he is also, like, the nicest person on the internet. He does great things with colour.

Murata Yusuke, whose skills in drawing action sequences should honestly be illegal.

Also, re: your post - Prince of Egypt is the prettiest movie, and I once took a 10 week summer course with a teacher who worked on the background paintings in it! :3 She was the nicest, and also crazy talented. And during the same course, I got to sit in on a couple of days of a masterclass taught by former Disney-animator and all-around insanely talented artist Glenn Vilppu (who was her old teacher and friend) - one of the best summers of my life, as far as art is concerned. <3

Also, holy crap, you met the woman who worked on the backgrounds of POE? Lucky dog! I never meet other artists period, let alone the really talented ones!

I totally did! I was so sad to see it end, because I've been following Nick Kole online for years, and I saw pretty much every step of Dawngate's development available to the public. I was so sad to see it end!

I think it comes from being used to drawing on easels - at that angle, holding the pen like that is actually easier on your wrist! I do it sometimes when I do sketches for acrylic paintings; trying to hold the pen the usual way when drawing on a surface angled like that puts some serious strain on your wrist.

Yeah, I've been crazy lucky with meeting cool art people! The art-scene in Sweden is pretty dang small - and the comics-scene is even smaller! - which means that every comic con is pretty much a reunion of old friends. <3 I know everybody, from brand new baby comic artists through people I went to college with all the way up to the bigwigs, like Peter Bergting (who is really nice!).

.... It also means you have to watch who you pick fights with, because everybody knows. >.< Not that I pick a lot of fights, but still!

There are so so many incredible artists to pick from! One of my absolute favourite artists though is Chris Riddell, he's absolutely fantastic and I've spent hours just staring at some of his more detailed drawings. He illustrated so many of the books I loved when I was too young to fully appreciate the fact that someone actually created the drawings that brought the stories to life!

I also adore Leonardo da Vinci, especially his sketchbooks, and other notable artists are Hergé, Tony DiTerlizzi and Maurice Sendak. Plus, I'm constantly inspired by all the artists on Tapastic! It sounds cheesy, but every webcomic I look at I take a little away from and I absolutely love reading them all!

I think I'm going to have to look up some of the artists mentioned on here, too.

It's hard to pick one, isn't it?, So if I get to answer another topic like this I'd probably pick another one. So for today I'll have to say the God of Art himself, this man changed the perspective of art for me, and he's been influnced by some of my influences, like Toriyama sensei, Moebius sensei, Otomo (the king) sensei. I just hope one day when I have money and resources to have all his sketchbooks and probably meet him, dreaming is free, eh? =]

When I see you guy's influences I can immediately see traces of em' in your art, pretty cool, keep it up everybody!

The person who comes immediately to mind is Jamie McKelvie with Matt Wilson doing colors. I find that team's style to be so clear and easy to read. As someone who started as a writer, I don't often pour over art as much as I know I should. Narrative clarity is so key to me. McKelvie really knows how to lead the eye around a page and the focus on narrative is super obvious.
