Why are we all "United"?

I know the title sounds odd. I don't have anything against the idea of unity and community - I want to make that clear from the get-go.

I noticed recently that so many Facebook writer groups are titled something like BLANK Writers United. I was invited to two writer groups recently run by the same woman with similar titles. It got me thinking, while community is important - what exactly are we united for? Are we not united by simply being an artist community?

I think "united" just sounds cool compared to just "Group" or "Writers" by itself

Because "Writers [something something] Craving Validation" doesn't sound as good

It sounds cool, and it could be inspired by the writer's Guild strikes in the US where writers are actually uniting to try and guarantee a livable wage and good practice within the industry. Unity by vertue of being writers with similar struggles.

I'm not sure the groups have any political power but it does mean that if one person goes through injustice they don't have to go it alone.

Honestly, that's fair. I just find the "united" groups strange because if they're not asking generic questions they could easily look up for themselves, they're promoting or playing stupid r4r games.

The groups are united by being part of the same group, duh Forming a group is the union. We're not all united though; we're not all part of one group with 'united' in the title :]

Writing together sounds better than writers united, We all in the same race, we can all help each other run, never stop the art grind!!! XD

I think, because "united" brings up an idea of mutual support. A "group" would be just a bunch of people with common interests that gather to chit chat about it, "united" would mean every one pushing each other to a common goal.

You are probably right. What honestly baffles me about the group situation is the redundancies of the groups. When I started doing Amazon stuff, there was one big group to discuss business. That made sense. It also made sense when the groups started to splinter off because the mods in the big group were divas. But eventually, all the groups are just reciting the same gossip and promoting their work. A woman invited me to two different "united" groups. Why couldn't we all be united under one group?
