Why are you drawing THIS comic?

The comic I'm currently working on (Entertain Me)? Well, it's pretty difficult to say why I picked this story as opposed to the other stories I have in my 1-foot stack of story concepts... I guess I chose it because it had a lot of elements that were/are difficult for me. Action, romance, male characters, animal/animalistic features, a dash of comedy, environments, a LONG story that needed to be told (it's going to take several years to finish this monstrosity). All of these things are, in one way or another, a challenge for me... When it gets really difficult, I can't help but say to myself 'Oh god, why didn't I choose something easier?!' lol. But yeah. I chose it because I needed the challenge - To grow my abilities. To force myself out of my comfort zone, so to speak... At times, I love working on this comic. Other times, it feels like this comic is going to kill me/drive me nuts... But I wouldn't have it any other way! ^_^

In addition to what I originally posted on this thread, I decided to make another comic for fun. I realize my first comic leans toward the serious side sometimes and I wanted something a little silly. Also this time I'll be drawing characters that are human lol...which I'm glad about.

Let's see. In the begining I wanted to start posting online a western story that I wrote long ago. A friend was supposed to draw it but in the end he quit.

Then I started another project, this time written and drawn by me, but it demanded to much time, since the style was very detailed, so I quit.

After that I decided to draw Jolly-Roger-den for many reasons. It was a project that I'd started in the past for fun, so I had half of the work already done: scripts, character sketches, some research... And, aslo, since it's comedy, the style dosn't need to be very detailed. This way I have time both to work on my profession and earn money.

I'm currently only working on one comic called Obscurity Fighter. I decided to write & illustrate this comic because I grew up playing fighting games in arcades in the 90s and was really fascinated with them. As I grew older I discovered the joys of emulation and was able to download & play a lot of weird old fighting games I'd never heard of before, and it helped to re-kindle my interest.

Hrmm. Well I am the artist for the webcomic Beautiful Lies which I began drawing two years now? Almost.
Beautiful Lies is my first webcomic ever and has had decent success for me. 273 fans on Tapastic which surprises me. I'm not sure why people are drawn to it...romance? Fighting? Not much of that has happened yet.

But to answer your question, the basic reason I am doing this comic is because I wanted to do SOME webcomic. In truth, my first ever webcomic was a romance called C.I.S.P.I. and it was horrible. I can't look at it now it was bad. So I gave up on that and tried thinking up new ideas. A story about a buy who sees ghosts? Mmmm, a snowboarding comic? Maybe something more personal...But I'm as emotionless as a robot so that's a tough one. But I built Beautiful Lies off of that idea -- something I can relate to.

I chose Beautiful Lies because I saw a beginning and an ending with a clear message in it. I'm not sure if I could say it i special to me, but I enjoyed the thought of drawing all the incredible images in it. I can't say what without spoiling but the comic is my first to test me on my ability to draw detailed backgrounds, fight scenes, and objects I haven't drawn before.

Sorry for the long description and less passionate answer. I do have a one shot I want to do on the side that I'm certainly more passionate about though.

If I could have picked a comic to draw for over two years back when I started writing the first storyboard for The Lonely Moon I would have probably picked another one of my stories. But TLM was a project I had with my sister and it just kinda... happened. Before I realized what was happening my sister had abandoned ship and I was working alone on my first webcomic, and had become really fond of it. The story grew and became more complex and the characters evolved and at some point I just realized I HAD to tell this story, that I couldn't just abandon it like my sister had. It was mine now and I really wanted to tell people how it went, how it ends, what happens to all these characters.

Once TLM is finished I will start working on that other long story project I had before. It's probably for the best, I will probably be a much better artist by then.

As for me, I was into making comics for years now. But there's a thing. While I did many short stories before, I never got around to finishing a multi-chapter one.
But now with Vicious Circle, I'm determined to finish my story. That's my main reason I guess. I could have just restart my previous longer comic (as I intend to, sometime) but I needed some fresh air. And this story of mine - though it's based on some old ideas - was pretty new by the time I made up my mind. What can I say? I'm a sucker for supernatural things in comics. And that's what mine's about.

My comic, DANIEL, is a vampire comic. I have always had a fascination with vampire stories since I was young.
My first real webcomic, Vampire Phantasm, was my first try at it. I had some good moments with it, but even though the whole comic was about vampires it was a lot more of a mixed bag with action, comedy, and gritty, bloody horror. Basically it was a big, fat mess. Then, as time went on, many vampire comics with similar concepts such as mine started coming out, Vampire Phantasm went through several remakes and I eventually just realised I lost the plot. X_x;

Daniel is my fresh try at the vampire genre. This time I went in more focused about what I wanted, and that what was to explore what both disturbed and fascinated me about vampires in the first place. Some aspects of it ended up being more personal than I expected as well.

This time I've had very few problems when coming up with the story and I have been freakin' enjoying the hell out of making it! Even though it's moving slowly, I think I may actually finish this one! XP

I've had a lot of ideas come and go but Starry Day is the one that appealed to me and stuck with me.

I'm curious as to WHY it's the one that appealed to you more than the others!

I think a most of my other ideas were rushed, so after I went through the phase of being excited about them I sort of 'got over them' as it were.

Starry Day was something that was so gradual, I mean Starlight went through some design changes along the way, and as the whole thing began when I was in High School I doodled a lot of Starry Day stuff in my Exercise Books. After some time it became familiar to me too. Even over the course of times with failed attempts to do something with him parts of of the puzzle that made the identity of Starry Day of a whole of what it is today.

I draw The Martyr's Rebellion
...honestly it's a story i had in mind for a long time and i really wanna share it with a mass majority of manga lovers and comic readers..I guess this is the main reason why...and also because i enjoy doing character designs and all of that short...I want to express my own ideas and views on certain subjects that other mangas do not have...

I continue to draw Strike Pup as I love women (Can't get enough of them), and I love action. So I though, why not combine the two. I wanted a female protagonist who rarely showed her soft side and who could kick plenty of butt.

I used to fill my books with designs too. I was once FORBIDDEN from drawing in class (not that I cared, since I kept on anyway).
Looking back, many of the designs were for a potential comic which may or may not be made someday (I must remember to ask for some advice here when I have the time), but I've kept them with almost no changes, even though they were made like five or six years ago.

Hi! I'm Josie-JES and I draw The Jade Heart.
I chose to go with this one because more than the actual story itself the characters are my favorites of all my designs(Some of them have a 14 year history with me!),I think up all kinds of different short stories but I always come back to this one,I've often thought up several of those stories with these same characters playing very different roles,plus this story actually has an ending.I often use these "guys" when I make parody comics for my own laughs too,maybe I'll post those some day...
This story has been messing around in my head for awhile,so even if just for the hell of it I wanna share it with the world,definitely without regretting it later!:)

My story is complicated! I draw cohersively assigned human at birth - and I am loving every moment I can find working on it. It is tender and vulnerable and explores raw feelings about living and being, which has been a huge way for me to process my life. <3 Huge is an understatement.

As a kid, I used to draw comics all the time about a milkshake and a straw. I thought you had to be funny to make comics, and eventually I realized I wasn't particularly funny. I also didn't really like superhero stuff. So I didn't draw, for years, until I made a very tender animated short film about growing up as a girl assigned male at birth. People loved it.

After the responses I got from the film, I realized I didn't need to tell 'funny comics' or 'action packed rollercoasters'. I just had to make real authentic stories that were true to my experience, and people would respond in the best way to it. I find drawing so much more delightful now knowing that. I love OliveOilCorp's Alone for similar reasons. It makes me excited to be in community with other vulnerable tenderhearts.

I draw Consolers mainly because I think it's a fun idea. While there's tons of gaming webcomics out there, I had yet to see anything like my comic, about the actual game companies. I like the whole "personification" concept and think designing and drawing these characters is a lot of fun, plus, I love reading about video game history and enjoy illustrating these events. So while not a completely original idea it's still a fresh spin on the "gaming webcomic" genre.

I always had lots, lots of stories in my head, just waiting to be drawn. Unfortunately, all of those stories are really long, and before I even got myself to draw it down, another one just appeared, leaving me with forever unfinished first chapter c;
6,75 also used to be that forever-unfinished one. About 5-6 years ago had a script for first two chapters, half of first chapter done, but dropped it because I was really unsatisfied with my arts and started getting doubts about the story. But later I decided to stop dropping my ideas like that, and told myself to sit down, work on one of those un-finished projects and finally complete it CX
So, why 6,75 of all those other ideas? It was SUPPOSED TO be short at first. The first plan was to close the story in about 9 chapters (...but when after few years I started working on it again, I added a lot of new content, characters and so on CX). Also, I like the story and some plot twists I came up with. I also draw it for characters, they are my babies, even if they hate each other~
But mostly to make a dream of my 16-years-old self come true and draw down her ideas c; so I've set a big NO to starting another projects before finishing this one :'D (with one exception, as I plan to start drawing short comics about life as a chemistry student, with all our accidents in labs : D )

Dreamcatchers was my first comic I started to draw. I think the first hero or heroine you have is usually YOU, and Sohiru is the girl I'll always be. I learnt a lot about drawing with this comic, and I'm so in love with the characters of it! They're like my children And... I think if I can draw the whole story, it can mean to me, that I'm able to do anything.

Meanwhile I'm drawing Furusato House. This story came from a dream of mine. As soon as I woke up, I started to write the story of it because I think It has a misterious feeling, what can easily catch you. So it totally bring me with itself XD Plus it's heroine... I wanted to make her a strong, brave character, who I wants to be, so... I just feel it's important for me to tell her story. And Hiroki... I just LOVE to draw him!

I drew a lot of comics, but Wonderers is the first one going so far (the French version as over 70 published page, and I drew over 120). The funny thing is that this one just HAPPENED. I drew two very different characters, and 5 random pages, left it somewhere and kind of remembered it way later... I finally came back to it very as an experiment (on layouts and b&w) and never stopped.
I think I like the storytelling, I dont do more than 4 page of story-board before starting to draw. Of course I already know the story, but I'm letting myself enough space to be in a discovery process each time I'm drawing it. And I love it.
I also like those characters a lot as well as this non-magic-anymore-but-once-was universe.
