Why can't I delete/edit my old comments?

Some old comments I've made on here I wish to change or edit, but alas when I try to do so the option is not available.

old being earlier in the year.

After some time in the forum, you will reach "trust levels". you gain the options to edit-delete your comments.

well that's just stupid, I got to comment more to delete comments

You could try contacting one of the site mods to help you out with that
