i feel like this has been the reality for webcomics for a while now but it's also a lot different from how it was years ago, granted i think i hopped in myself somewhere between this current era of webcomics being mainstream but indie being kind of oddly flopped around by bigger sites in particular versus old school where it was a lot of folks with indie sites or when hosting site were a little less....yknow.
like just looking at tapas feels painful as a user from 2014/2015 to now and when we were still tapastic. the environment (between company and overall user base specifically) felt and still feels a hell of a lot different than is used to and i'd be lying if i said i wasnt more than miffed about it. like webtoons always seemed to have its track record for granting good engagement (to a degree) but still having a very specific kind of environment for it's artists and an "interesting" reader base to say the least which even tho i personally don't host i'm glad there's at least an okay chunk of nice and normal folks in comment sections but it doesnt negate the fact that there's still a lot wrong
i've more than accepted the realities of online posting and what kind of success a person may or may not get so my primary goal has been to organize a decent space to post my comics and other art work and find people to gush about my ocs with. and i mean my day job certainly isnt something i enjoy but at least it pays the bills (for the most part)
would it be nice to see some kind of drastic positive change sure but given the state of the art world in general right now all ive got is "it is what it is" and "f it we ball" the carry me through along with a strong obsession with my ocs ¯ _(ツ)_/¯
