You shouldn't be using terms used for racism to talk about homophobia. Yes, writing about race and sexual minorities both require cultural humility. But mixing up the terms leads to the assumption that straight women who write BL aren't POCs or black.

I'm only talking about misrepresentation no matter how innocent the cause is. If you misrepresent and you chastise the one offended because "the market says this will exist so tough it, stop complaining", it ends up being like blackface. The creator was white, the audience was white, and the shows sold out. Why did it stop? People fussed about how horrible the whole premise was. The offended POC were rightfully offended and the market demand came to a stop.

Yeah, I'm only upset because if someone says they are feeling poorly represented, why are they told to just tough it because that's how the market is? Back to blackface. Tell the POC misrepresented that "hey its the market!"

Black face was offesive due to once again it was delibrate. Not that it had black people as poor or what ever.

It was delebrately made to make fun of a black persons struggle as funny.

Im just asking. What Bl trope or stereotype is comperable? Or more accurately the point of romance is to provide the readers ideal unrealistic romance.

Lots of gay men idetify with the exlusive top/bottom dynamic. Lots of gay men (from research) write and draw alot of dub con and power plays. They still get harrassed or negative reviews for thier showcase of it even thou thats not the point or its from personal experience. Cus at the end of the day the point of romance is to provide something unreal/ a fantasy. Not a reality. Romance at its core is about idealistim and unrealistic expectations. Its like wondering why a scifi is so technologically inaccurate

The closet equilvant to that is not really found in BL ironically. Mostly found in heteronormative sitcoms and the like with mild stereotypes to make fun of queer folk. Not as a romatic fantasy but as a punching bag for jokes....

I do agree with that with main stream there is a market demand. Gay romance stories that get picked up tend to be the ones that are very wholesome, almost like a Hallmark romance but they are gay. If you showed that gay men are well...men and can sometimes be gross or weird, women consumers would probably not like that.

BUT... Tapas isn't the main stream. What becomes popular is decided by engagement. And because most of the users and creators are young women, stuff that appeals to that demographic is what is popular.

Op, I think your problem is assuming EVERYTHING in the genre is the same stereotypical story. You might not have read any recently made ones, or any at all for that matter, but if you genuinely go read some made more recently, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

You can not read it. No ones forcing you to read "bang bus delux extra sausage" on the hub. Some gay men like it, some find it accurate, some even gasp write it, some trans men discover themselves with it. You can just read a few fluffy chill Bl about life as gay dude
