Words per Day/ How many words do you usually write?

I'm curious—what's your daily word count usually look like?

For me, it really depends on my mood and how the writing session goes. On average, I tend to write about 1–3 chapters a day, which usually comes out to an average of 1700 words each (obviously some chapters are longer or shorter). But if I hit a good flow state, I can knock out 5+ chapters in a day, which always feels amazing (and slightly chaotic lol).

Worth noting, I’m currently juggling 3 different novels, so I don’t always work on the same story each day. I kind of go with whatever project is calling to me most at the time.

Just wanted to hear from other writers—what’s your usual pace? Do you stick to one project or bounce between a few like I do? Do you aim for a specific word count or just go with the flow?

I'm writing almost everyday with the works in my notebooks and laptop. I tend to aim for 1,500 - 2,000 words per day, and that will give me a chapter to put down before revisions and edits. Timewise, this will range between 6-8 hours.

I currently writing my novel, War of Neytives, until the end of the year. Plus, a standalone supernatural thriller and a fanfic on the side.

One writing quirk of mine: I can't write in the same place twice. If I'm in the same spot repetitively, it'll feel like I'm stuck there mentally and either get writer's block or brain fog.

No less than 1000, but usually way more. I can write like 2000 or so words most days, like 4-5000 words on a good day or when I'm inspired with a new (and long) short story idea. But I also spend a lot of days editing, so I'm writing a lot less than I am tweaking a word here and there.

I also don't stick to one project, and I don't have a specific word count goal. I write professionally as well as posting my novel on Tapas, so I have to juggle my novel and comic with the poetry, essays and short stories I actually get paid for.

I write Like 1000-2000 words per day, but kinda depends if I'm lazy or not. I can write multiple chapters in a day, it's the editing is what gets me lazy. I

1000% a mood. I usually try to give myself a buffer when starting a new web novel project, or just waiting until I finish it to start posting so I can focus on my published or ghostwriting projects.

I am currently writing the novel here on Tapas, but I'm like 16 chapters ahead of what's public

GOD i feel that. I tend to go back and edit right before I post the chapter, because
1. it gives pressure for me to do it
2. It's likely been a few days since I last looked at it

That's really interesting. I only have my desktop to work on, but I'd love to have a laptop for writing so I can write on the go. I hate writing on my phone lol

Typically 0. It is not my intentions but I genuinely do not have time to write. When I do, I try to get as much written as possible.

It depends on how inspired I am that day but typically I try to aim for at least 500 to 1,000 . It could be more if the creative juices are flowing.

It's okay! My time to write is about to go down, tbh. I write so much atm because I lost my job, but im going back to school on monday and am hoping to find at least something parttime.

I bet! 500-1000 words a day is still a lot! When I was working full time, that many words felt impossible, so you are doing great!

People here are so impressive! Like a few of the other commenters, I can write about 1000-2000 words in a day, but so far, I have no ability to keep it on one project, which is why I haven't started my own Tapas novel yet. (I mostly write short fiction so I can actually finish things).

I'm a full-time student, so I hope to up my output over summer break and get something done.

most days, nothing. my writing is very sporadic. but when i DO write, i can write a fair amount. around 6000 at my highest i think? during nanowrimo.

Wow, 6,000 takes stamina! Do you have a system for keeping your energy up (and if so, enlighten me) or do you just write fast while driven by inspiration?

I do word sprints! they help me get a lot of words down. i'll usually do them for fifteen minutes, then take a break. and i find external factors (such as nanowrimo in the past) motivating, and once i get inspired on a topic i find it easy to focus on that

Oh, a Discord server I'm on has those, and I've used them a bit before! They're useful, maybe I'll use them more (I always feel reluctant, perhaps because they make me concentrate and I subconsciously want to be able to jaunt over to social media lol)

It's one of the reason I like Writathon over on Royal Road. I am semi-competitive and having a goal to work towards makes me write even more! My goal for this writathon is 2 chapters everyday, for a total of 60 chapters. I have failed some days, but only a few!

haha yes discord is where i do them! i find that having either people to sprint with or a bot to be more helpful than just putting on an alarm. and yeahh i totally get that, i sometimes have to push myself to do a sprint because im like. well i COULD be procrastinating instead
