Don't waste your time
At the very least I should explain why I don't like Tokyo Ghoul.
Tokyo Ghoul is a horror thriller anime that tries to convince you that's it's deep, thoroughly psychological, and that its characters are worth feeling something for. They're not. Ken Kaneki has a name that will take you the entire season to remember, even though he's the main character. He's uninteresting and unsympathetic as a character that you will come out of the first season asking why you wasted time on him.
The premise of the anime is that human now fear "ghouls" human looking monsters that feed on the human race and also have superhuman abilities. Ken gets into an accident, along with a ghoul that tries murder him. A psychotic physician gets the bright idea to transplant the organs of the ghoul who tried to murder him into his body to save him. From then on, Ken Kaneki is now a ghoul, losing the ability to enjoy human food, except coffee for whatever reason (it's that way for all ghouls), and begins craving human flesh. But he doesn't want to eat humans and I guess that's the central conflict of the show. Watch as hi-jinks ensue between ghouls and humans while you beg mercilessly for each episode to end.
You'll get to the season finale where Ken Kaneki has decided to embrace his ghoulishness and team up with the bad guys for . . . reasons. You'll keep watching, hoping for answers for his sudden turn (I guess it's because he was psychologically tortured, trust me it ain't a good enough reason).
Whatever. I watched the first season, and half of the second and all I wanted to do is take a sledgehammer to Ken Kaneki's head. He's not a bad person, just a bad character with no defining traits and no reason to like him. I don't get why so many people fawn over him; maybe I would've found out had I finished the second season.
I also don't like Akame ga Kill. It's another case of trying to force the audience to like flat, uninteresting and slightly annoying characters. The titular character is the only one worth liking but she really doesn't do anything, at least from what I've watched.
