I've been making strides in my novel, and I'm looking back at what I've written. The main character is supposed to be a very selfish young girl who (through being transported to a magical land) learns that she might be wrong about a few things. Obviously, I want to portray her as being a selfish brat in the beginning, but I'm not sure I want to drive people away. I know context is important so here's some.
Camilla is a selfish 13 year old girl. She doesn't do well with sharing and gets quite upset at things she deems 'hers' getting tampered with. This makes for quite a difficult time when she has to deal with her mother getting remarried and the issue of having to get two new stepsisters. Things only get worst when her grandfather, one of the few people she's turned to in this trying time, winds up in the hospital.
I want to show that she's going through a lot but also that she's being unreasonable. If anyone could check out this specific chapter, I'd appreciate it! Let me know what you think!
