If even on my perspective 1k€/month would be a dubious deal (it would depend on the time lenght and other aspects) it would be in fact a a lousy deal from your perspective.

If it's not exclusive rights, fuck my shit up fam. There's no such thing as bad publicity, and hopefully, a lifetime to fix that - or if the bad show got popular, past my lifetime.

If it DOES ask for exclusive rights, hell no. I'm not giving away work so it can be remembered as the bad movie/show/videogame forever, not for a salary. That goes back to any future even though I'm not involved in it, it's not even just losing characters I love.

I fully agree with the first part. On the second part...I must say that it's all a matter of amount... I'm just not sure of the threshold LOL

If my work is going to get the Percy Jackson adaptation treatment, then forget it. Even if they paid too much, I still won't accept it. I'm very compassionate with my content and to see it change due to creative difference and BS reason of changing, Is a massive slap in the face for me.

Well, there are different degrees of bad movies. If it's like, dunno, the other Avatar movie we don't talk about where it's just bad and visibly misinterpreted, you've got a chance because now thousands want the original better work. And what'd you know, they are now getting a second adaptation with people who want to fix those mistakes.

If it legitimately gets offensive (taking an example of my comic, making the main character lecherous because he's bi, or "justifying" some bad actions instead of the whole theme of atonement), people can get back to you thinking the original work is also offensive, and you'll be known as the creator that did Bad Thing for a long long time. A salary doesn't matter if after that you just get nothing since no one's watching it. It's more luck based but my high school had some prejudice towards people reading Percy Jackson because the movie didn't immediately look like the plot was changed.

I also think that there’s a huge difference between adapting from source material that’s relatively unknown.

Avatar was a pretty big series with a huge and vocal fan base behind it.

Most adaptations from comics (especially considering a HUGE chunk of popular Netflix shows right now) you would NEVER end up hearing about the source material unless you’re looking for it but most don’t.

For me this really depends on the story. If it's one I really don't care about, there's a chance I'd let them, however, if it was one that I'd spent a lot of time and hard work on, I wouldn't let someone adapt it. It also depends on how "badly" someone adapts it--is it the casting that doesn't fit? Is it the flow of the story that's off/did they just randomly take out a bunch of the plot? That kind of thing. It all really just depends.
