Would Your Character Survive? (WYCS) | A character development game

Characters: Kathezia, Denmar, Carl (Kathezia is a side character in my current comic)

Katzezias’ foot hits the soft ground of the forest they are stuck in. She was very angry. Her dress, once pretty and flawless was now dirty and in shreds. What was she even thinking joining those two idiots?! It surely sounded fun though and it was a welcome change from this dammed cave they had to stay in. But of course she only got informed about bears and all sorts of funny things in this forest when there was no chance of turning back. Surely she knows very much about surviving and what plants are poisonous but just in theory. And fighting bears?!? Even the little pocket knife she hid in her stockings wasn’t calming her. She would need all the luck on the world to kill a bear with that little thing. Well, good thing one of her companions was quite as strong as a bear and agile, too. Also he was able to see in this stupid darkness they are in. With him it would be easy to survive this whole situation.

The problem is… THAT IDIOT IS CHASING A SQUIREL!

Well surely as a biologist she would be interested in squirrels with funny patterns as well. But that idiot forgot that his friends doesn’t have night vision, again. Also Kathezia is used to city life with lights and guards and the comfort of a nice tea with cookies. But she is ready to master this situation. She won’t die in this stupid forest, oooooh no! And if she does, she will come back as squirrel to chase that idiot for the rest of his life!

So she calculated their chances. Carl was very good in detecting tracks and he knows a lot about the wilderness. But he was a coward and would run off as soon as he sees something scary. He was never alone out there and always had someone like Denmar to protect him. But running away from a bear was absolutely impossible. So she had to make sure, he doesn’t lose his mind.

Also it was in the mid of the night and no sign of any tracks. Just them and the darkness. No, it doesn’t make any sense to search for Denmar in this situation. They already tried to find him and it got them lost even more. So she decided to search for a tree, they could climb. Luckily they found one with a branch that was wide enough and she was even able to convince Carl to join her. Good thing they still had their sleeping bags or else the freshening air would be a real bummer.

Carl found his sleep surprisingly quick. But she wasn’t able to even close her eyes for a minute. That wasn’t a problem though. She was used to sleepless nights when she spend days and nights on her projects. A smile hushes over her face and she thought about the warm fireplace in her parents’ home. Then the moonlight broke through the clouds and she saw a shadow in the near bushes…

EAT ALL THE FOOD IMMEDIATELY—YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG YOU'LL BE IN THE WOODS, AND YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU'LL HAVE ENOUGH FOOD TO KEEP YOU ENERGIZED.

MOVE AT ALL AT NIGHT—IN THE DARKNESS, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL WHERE YOU'RE GOING AND YOU'LL GET EVEN MORE LOST, OR POTENTIALLY FALL INTO A DITCH OR OFF A CLIFF. WHO KNOWS WHAT'S IN THIS FOREST?

ACTIVELY FIGHT ONE OF THE BEARS—BEARS ARE STRONGER THAN HUMANS. IF YOU ACTUALLY TRY TO FIGHT THEM WITH NOTHING BUT YOUR POCKET KNIFE, YOU WILL LOSE.

SEPARATE (ONCE YOU'VE MET UP AGAIN)—THERE'S NO GUARANTEE YOU'LL EVER MEET UP AGAIN. HOW WILL YOU FIND EACH OTHER? YOU COULD BE LOST ALONE IN THE WOODS FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG.

UNWRAP YOUR FOOD; LEAVE IT IN THE OPEN—THIS WILL ATTRACT BEARS. FOOD WRAPPED WILL PROBABLY ATTRACT BEARS, BUT EVEN MORESO IF YOU'VE COMPLETELY RELEASED THE AROMA OF THE GRANOLA BARS AND THEN LEFT THEM THERE.

HOW TO SURVIVE:

I WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED ANY TWO OF THE FOLLOWING:

MAKE A FIRE—NOT ONLY WILL THIS KEEP YOU WARM, IT COULD HELP PASSERSBY FIND YOU IF THEY SEE THE SMOKE.

WAIT UNTIL MORNING; TRY TO FIND A STREAM—STREAMS CAN HELP LEAD TO CIVILIZATION, BUT YOU CAN'T GO OUT AT NIGHT.

EITHER KEEP YOUR WEAPON HANDY, OR MAKE A NEW ONE—THIS COULD HELP WITH HUNTING, AND I GUESS DEFENSE AGAINST BEARS. BUT MOSTLY HUNTING.

EAT SOME FOOD; DRINK SOME WATER—YOU NEED ENERGY AND HYDRATION.

TIE UP OR BURY YOUR FOOD (ESPECIALLY IF IT'S BEEN OPENED)—THOSE PESKY BEARS. YOU DON'T WANT TO ATTRACT THEM ANY MORE THAN YOUR FOOD ALREADY HAS.
