Interceptors:

Using advanced technology, Earth has created heroes to fight a zombie-like invasion. If an infected individual has antibodies, they develop superpowers. Mason and Serena are on opposite sides of the invasion.

Scene:
Serena carried a basket filled with Christmas goodies past the guard, putting her sweater back on after the security inspection. He nodded at her, and she nodded back, ignoring the feelings of boredom and contempt that brewed inside him. How could so many people be upset this season? Serena thought, once again wishing she hadn't developed the power to feel people's emotions.

Her green skin matched her outfit, a silly Christmas sweater on top of a red knitted dress. The person she was here for lit up at her presence. Serena smiled. Mason Black, a former enemy that had worked with the Melaka, sat behind bars. The only thing decorating his cell was a little Christmas themed mug on top of a silver tray still filled with food. "Of course I wouldn't forget you." Serena said, feeling his disbelief at her presence. Mason blushed, red cheeks and gold skin a stark contrast to his perfectly curled black hair. "Thanks." It was so fitting, Serena thought, that he had the power to control and harness sunlight. Even in the uniform prison attire, there was an irresistible glow to the superhuman.

Staring at him a moment too long, she came back to herself, "I got you something you might like... if you want it?" Mason didn't trust himself to speak, too surprised that Serena chose to celebrate the holiday with a traitor. To bring them a gift. He nodded. She pulled out an oddly shaped package that Mason feigned nonchalance opening, "It's a sunlamp. Solar-powered." Staring at the glowing yellow lamp, Mason felt some of the fatigue from being without the sun for so long disappear. "I-thanks." Serena then jested, "I have a matching one...so you don't feel lonely, feel free to associate that lamp with me, so you're thinking of me every day." Since she was also a psychologist, Mason wasn't sure if she was seriously jesting, being sincere, or flirting. It didn't matter. He was usually thinking of her anyway.

The weather was as cold as any other day in a post-nuclear war world... Ivan sat by the window watching the heavy snowfall while Alexei prepared some hot chocolate. It was like brown gold after everything that had happened to the world

Alexey came and offered Ivan the chocolate, saying, "Here, but don't drink it in a hurry like last time." Ivan took the cup and thanked Alexey. "Thank you... So... what are your plans for the new year?" Alexey replied with his usual coolness, "Like every year... I'm trying to stay alive until I die." Ivan said irritably, "For God's sake, Alexey, try to hold on to some hope! Even if half the world is destroyed, look at the other half." Alexey said calmly, "I've tried that... but the problem isn't with the world, it's with the people who live in it... Happy New Year, Ivan. I hope you achieve your dreams, even if they seem ridiculous."

It's new year... 2026... the fireworks are going off in the background as the world watches the ball drop in Times Square... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Many people celebrating with drinking, fireworks, s3x, etc...

Global unconsciousness... and demonic extraction / farming/ harvesting... whatever you wanna call it is just getting worse and worse... war... rumors of war... poverty... corruption... drug use... declining birth rates... sui... more and more people becoming NPCs... Etc...

Claudita is on the top of a building...

Claudita (thoughts): this is like... my 135th life saved... and about 200 low level demons sent back to hell... in a span of a week. This is crazy...

Claudita remembers different instances she saved lives... like making guns jam or magazines fall out in sui attempts... "miraculous" healing that doctors cant explain... people somehow surviving with little to no injuries in accidents that would normally be fatal... etc.

Claudita (thoughts): I hope this is just the dark night of the soul of the human race... wherein there's light at the end of the tunnel and soon we shall be seeing the new earth... sigh This is getting tiresome... like trying to save a sinking ship with a small bucket...

*senses a dark presence in the middle of the city... a haze that is really a swarm of low level demons made up of ego identities that gained "consciousness". *

Claudita (thoughts): something big is about to go down... yeah... ... wings come out... twin swords summoned

Novel title:
Jano & Clark : Universal Nightmare System

Short synopsis:
Jano & Clark are two housemates living their day-to-day lives in Atmos, a country caught by a virus where everyone gains overwhelming powers at an alarming rate, prompting the government to place restrictions on the population as everyone tries to figure out how to stop those monstrous abilities. Everyone is infected. When will it be Jano & Clark's turn?

Scene:
December 31st - 6 h 30 PM
Clark arrives from work, exhausted, when he hears Jano pop a bottle open in the kitchen of their shared home. The bald man panics when he realises he forgot to admit he barely drinks any alcohol. Although he's built like he could lift five tanks in a row, Clark is a lightweight. When he walks towards his housemate, he can feel the weight of the decor speak sweet nothings in his ears. It's the christmas season. Further more, it's new years eve! His shift at the archive library was quiet, like all the other 31st of Decembers that came before. A quick sip of champagne wouldn't bend his liver backwards that much.

Jano is already tipsy. This is not a good sign of things to come. "Helloooooo! Welcome back big man! How was work today boy!?", yells Jano as if he was a kilometer away from Clark. "I'm-I'm good, please don't shout like that ever again. You look like you're about another glass away from being wasted", comments Clark, a bit overwhelmed by his housemate. "Hey listen! Some times, you gotta rhyme these crimes together like... Oh wow, what am I even saying!" Jano starts laughing at his own behavior before pouring half a glass of champagne. "Listen, don't mind me bud'. I know you like to do your thing, so at least let's have a toast. Happy new year!" Clark responds by hesitantly raisng his glass of champagne to meet Jano's. "Yeah, of course. Happy new year to you too, Jano."

It has been two weeks since Clark moved in this house. The prospect of being in the same space as a man as nonchalant as Jano surprises Clark. Jano isn't much of a drinker himself, so Clark's reassured that after toasting Jano put back the bottle in the fridge. Clearly he knows moderation but drinks just enough to swallow away the deeper emotions he's got. So far, this guy's a weirdo, but he checks his boxes in order, so that's fine... If only Clark knew how bizarre their bond would grow over the next year.

Scene:

Ragnar’s bedroom in his palace is largely bare save for his bed. On the night of the new year, Ragnar, rather unusually for a maniacal god emperor, does not hold any lavish balls or masques. Instead, he goes down to his private bar, and, after sipping some warm beer, retires to bed.

He puts on the photogramophone and climbs into his bed like a child climbing into its cot as the sounds of “Rambling Rose” fill the air. He lies on his side, and, gradually, his eyes close until the shutters are sealed within these casements. Ragnar does not snore, of course - instead, he snoozes quietly and breathes very little.

After another year of laying waste to another world, he is, for the moment, at peace.

Trish looked over the table at In-ho, the sparkling wine still foaming after being poured by him.
It was New Year's Eve. A new year. A new start with her career, and the added bonus of being with In-ho.
They were still going slow. But they could be openly together. Which meant something. Something important.

She could see him looking at her, with a slow grin spreading on his face. He shouldn't do that. It drew a quick breath from her. How could anybody look that fantastic from a simple smile?

"What are you thinking right now?" he said, a slight breathiness to his voice.

"You. Us. This new start." She waved to the amazing Seoul apartment around her. "You running the band for your father."

He raised his glass. "I'll drink to that." He took a sip, lowered his glass. "It finally feels like I'm being honest with myself."

"Which is all anybody can ask." There was a pause as the bubbles popped in her glass. She flicked her eyes to him again. "Do you miss it? The fans? The music?"

He leaned forward. "No. None of it."

NOTE: Thank you for getting my butt in the chair and starting an epilogue. I may have to use it. I didn't think of having them talk at New Year's. I was going to have them backstage watching a show. But I like how this is working. Might have to continue this as an extra episode. This could also suggest some spoilers. But it also gives you an idea of how I'll wrap things up. Hopefully it acts more as a teaser. Let me know. Thanks for the writing prompt.
