Writer looking for Artist to make a Manga (Passion Project with Potential to become the next Big Name series like One Piece)

Been working on a great refreshing adventure story like HxH, One Piece, Toriko etc. Original premise, original power system, weapon concepts, lore, new ideas and overall enjoyable and a good read. I'd love to find an artist partner to collab with and bring life to it. I'm not looking for any super detailed and elaborate panels. I'm more interested in telling the story with art to make it easier to visualize but a simple style like JJk or HxH would be more than enough. Feel free to put more effort into it if you desire but I mainly look to publish it so that others could enjoy that nostalgic vibe and story of manga that's reminiscent of the old but gold, big names. This will be a long running series with goals of hopefully making it into Shounen Jump. If not, there is already one known manga publisher that shows interests but keep in mind and to reiterate, this is primarily a passion project before anything else. I personally see great potential in it but wouldn't want to be liable for any blame if it isn't successful.

I am sorry but you have to be at least 13 years old to use the forum. You can develop your current project, create new ones, or pick up some drawing skill in the meantime. I do not want young creatives to be discouraged, so I wish you good luck in your endeavour.

I'm sorry but if you cannot pay for an artist, then maybe you'll have to learn how to draw.
If you don't want to do none, then maybe you'll have to understand your limitations and instead of a manga, make a novel.

Confidence is great but no one will risk themselves to the uncertain, promises of payment in case of making it big or just being confident aren't guarantors that someone's time, knowledge and effort will be compensated in what is not their passion project, but yours.

You need to think of better ways to compensate all the heavy lifting someone is going to do, especially for a long term passion project. Outsiders wouldn't share your passion, so you cannot expect loyalty either. It is very likely many will drop the project for actual paid gigs that provide a sense of satisfaction or simply moving to their own projects.

If this is your first time making something, then try small, something short-term.
If you're a minor, please focus on school, part-time jobs, preparing for college and other more important things than trying to get total strangers to work for you
If you're an adult, please understand art is a luxury, therefore one should pay for it. If you don't want to pay, nothing is stopping you from making a Novel, if its that good, I bet people will tip you or support you, and with time you'll maybe be able to commission an artist.

Now seriously, you are either extremely overconfident or you don't gauge all the elements that make One Piece good.

Nobody knows how good their project is before it encounters the audience. No battle plan survives the first encounter with the enemy and no perfect story survives an encounter with the audience.

Making it into Shonen Jump is a commendable yet kind of impossible goal.

First time using this site because a friend recommended it but from the other posts I've seen, people just give a vague premise and general goal and leave the explanation, elaboration and negotiation for the dms for people that are interested. I respect you for genuinely asking questions and not making assumptions or slandering me like the others in this comment section. I emphasized this to be a passion project because I'm interested in finding a partner that would share the same enjoyment and passion in it once they check out the script.

I'm aware of the different publishing company and their work load. I've came into contact with multiple established mangakas that see potential in the work and got acquainted with one of their publishers that guaranteed me their full support and marketing. The only hurdle I've had is finding an artist with suitable art style.

Also to address some other assumptions people had all in the same response because it seems like a hassle responding to each individual. I've written stories for over 10 years and this specific project I've spent 6 years on. I'm very critical on the content I intake so naturally I'm the same with my own creations. The amount of times I had to retcon details or straight up scrap everything and start from scratch is more than you'd be able to count in both hands. I'm personally proud of it and I have no reason to convince anyone else on this forum through conversation. Either they work/converse with me and find out or just continue to stay pessimistic and narrow minded, automatically drawing assumptions about someone else's hard work and joy.

My brother, if you have so much experience in the industry you must also know how vaguely you have made this post. Just genuinely wanted to let you know that if you don't add any details of your story/script with literally no proof of your experience or previous works while putting forth such high expectations, readers are inevitably going to make the assumption that you have no experience whatsoever.

If you have 10 years of experience, add proof without it this is just an baseless claim. Spent 6 years on the story, show us the sample or summary of that story. You are in contact with a publisher, mention it. With what you have put forth yet, it clearly looks very unprofessional and you lower your chances of having any potential collaborator.

I don't know where you found post with vague pitches that are UNPAID and are 'well-recieved' but that's not how things work here. Collaboration is all about convincing the other person that this work is worth their efforts and time. You can't just straight up declare that you don't need to convince people to work with you while expecting them to work with you. It's clearly hypocritical.

Hi, most people collaborating in passion projects want to know the generalities of the story, a catchy premise or know about interesting character.

If the mangakas you mentioned truly belived in your project they would be introducing you to the artists. Publishers have a waiting line of manga artist that are assisting the big names that want their moment to shine. If they are not doing that...find another contact, they are not as interés as they are claiming.

Also, there is nothing simple about the HxH art, clean ink art is very complex. That bar us quite high and any artist of that level is not cheap.

I am sorry for being pessimistic and narrow minded, because of your wording I genuinely thought you are a new young creator.

Could you do kindly link your website/portfolio of your amazing works you've worked so hard for years unlike everyone else? Also, any social media or other contact so we can get updated when will you drop your masterpiece? It will also make easier for people who want a shred of your genius to collaborate.

It is so unfortunate that despite contacting some unnamed publishing companies and even with their help, it is difficult to find an artist that suits your creative vision.

I understand your point of view, sweetheart.
But consider this:

We, in this platform, are used to several individuals that come and claim the same things as yours, but they do not bother at all into making a proper, polished presentation. Just like you, several don't bother into filling their profiles either, not a PFP, nor a bio or links to a portfolio, CV or past works, nor proper contact information to guarantee you are an actual individual that is professionally working or at least attempting to, since yes, we also deal with scammers and choosing beggars.

Writting stories for over 10 years is something anyone can do, I've been an artist for more than a decade, yet, there is an incredible difference from being a hobbyst, than a freelancer, to a professional, besides, how improper it is to confidently compare yourself to another Work that is on a High-Standard while not providing any proof of that nor being a well established, easy to recognize, name yourself.
If you claim to have experience, then that's something you should mention, remember many of us weren't granted a crystal ball, and others won't be digging for information, just base their judgement on the very same words you do provide while introducing yourself. You are responsible of the image you provide.

If you're a professional or even a freelancer, you'll know how to polish a pitch, how to present yourself, how to provide information to make you trustworthy especially when you are a newcomer in a different community, or maybe just before jumping into your request, to check if there are guidelines or certain etiquette for these serious matters since it requires two individuals or more to get involved, especially off-site.

I believe reading these threads would be better for your understanding and see what things should be important at the moment of structuring your Collaboration Post.

So you have a portfolio about those 10 years of work? Don't need to share you obviously trascendental scripts with us, the narrow-minded creative mob.

But you could have a portfolio with your previous world-changing stories, no, art pieces, yes, that's the word, Art with capital A.

And if you can gauge the potential success of a work with such accuracy you feel capable of saying it's "ONE PIECE LEVEL" then I think you should aim to be an editor in Shonen Jump, because your god-level writing talents are wasted on us simple mortals.

I'm going to pitch in here with a more realistic view as a writer. So, I am a writer. I'm trying to learn art but it is quite difficult. Every writer has an idea that they think is star studded, and I think so too with my book. But it is going to need a lot more polishing before I even consider pitching it.

When I mean pitch, I mean the money I'm saving up to pitch to an artist long term. Again, no where near that. But I realize that artists, like writers, don't work for free. Sometimes there can be a "collab" where an artist needs a writer but most times a writer needs an artist.

Unlikely most people, I did have a collab that worked out. The artist did an amazing job, but I feel major remorse because looking at it, that story had potential but as a beginner script writer, I had no idea what I was doing. And that reflected in the story.

So, I would recommend saving some money and pay for a pilot episode. See if you post it to webtoon and if it gains any traction. From there, it's your call. If it doesn't gain traction, then that's what it is. If it does, save more money and thank the artist for doing a good job.

Simple as that.

If you want to get skilled and engaged artists here in Tapas there is a simple lifehack that makes a huge difference between getting snarky comments and getting actual offers.......

Pay them.....with actual money.

When it comes to passion projects, people prefer to work on their own ideas and projects instead of working for a stranger on the internet, but if you can compensate them for their work they will be more willing to work for you.
