hi!
I'm Patrick, a writer who's had this idea in his head for the past few days I really want to flesh out and give a shot at publishing. I've been writing for a long time, but never finished any projects due to a "fear of failure" of my writing not being up to the mark to my ideas. This is the first time I feel like I'm finally just having fun, and not caring so much about being "perfect". That being said, it's still exciting, so hopefully if the pitch interests you and I seem capable, let's chat, and see if we can work something out!
More personally speaking, I'm a 19 year old linguistics student who splits his time between Delhi and Melbourne, who's always just doesn't know how to relax, I think that's how I'd describe myself . I spend a lot of time working in music PR, writing brand guides and managing acts in the electronic music space, which is very cool, but not the most creative thing. Still love it though, as it lets me be close to one of my biggest passions, music!
well, enough about me, and more about the webcomic itself!
The idea is to create a story around football (just so it's clear, association football/soccer, not american football ) , but rather than being about some genius prodigal football player like a lot of these shonen stories follow with some special ability, this is about a guy who can't play football very well...but he understands the game extremely well. He really loves the game, and loves the strategic aspect of it, but he just doesn't have the natural technique/finesse required to handle the ball well. He's disliked by his teammates at school because of it, who wouldn't know what teamwork means if it hit them in the face, other than his childhood friend K, who he's grown up playing football with. K's a really good player, someone who's picked for state tryouts at the U-17 level, but he always sticks around our main character because that's just the kind of friends they are.
The story will follow our MC and K as they create their own football club after school, first playing 5-a-side futsal in a competition, to eventually competing in 11-a-side tourneys, and the final tournament arc will see a rift between them as the MC participates with the club he created in a competition, against his own school team which has K playing for it. I've thought a lot about other characters too, but I think for the pitch it's important to just understand the dynamic between these two, as it's the central story. In essence, I want to write a story that's about the love of the game and how it doesn't matter how "technically gifted" you might be, as long as you know your own limitations and know how to play the game best in a way that gives you joy, no matter how competitive other people might try to be about the game.
Genre wise, I think it fits very squarely into sports, but there can be romance/slice-of-life elements to it. I think it'd be similar to Windbreaker, a webtoon about cycling, but without the random fights lol. Or Kuroko No Basketball without the melodrama and without being hyperfocused on school. I really want this story to be about how you can also find your own happiness outside of where people say you have to, and the main character regaining his love for football outside of school is a big part of that.
I'm looking for an artist who can collaborate on this, who has some idea about the webcomic format- I'm a total newbie to it (though I read a lot of it). The more I thought about this, I realized it's sort of impossible to write this as anything other than something visual, so somebody who's comfortable drawing "dynamic" and action filled art would be preferred. And it doesn't matter if you don't have much prior experience- it'll be a learning experiencef or us both!

Look forward to hearing from you! I wish I could give you some samples, but I don't have any published work or any scenes written for this... I think it's impossible for this story to be in a purely written format. However, you can read some of my writing here: so you know I'm decent at writing. Though that's just a technical overview, I think my biggest skill is in constructing meaningful story arcs over time, which I'm yet to have a chance at displaying.
It's a very mood piece about something personal with minimal character/dialogue, not something I usually write/want to write, but here goes!
