Well, I think there are things that one as a writer or artist needs to understand to a certain point especially when you make a living out of this:
You won't always get to make your vision or only things that you like. You won't always have a deep emotional, personal connection to works, sometimes you only need to do the work, obtain what you need from it and move on.
Is only logical is not going to have that personal interest because is something you're doing as a task commanded by another, you're under pressure because you're not only being judged by a figure of autorithy, but not doing it also comes with a consequence, aka a bad grade or not being able to pass the subject if it is a final test or something of the like.
Right now, you're a college student thus your priority should be that, your studies, your career, to be able to finish something that is meant to favor you for the rest of your life and take a big part of your curriculum. Not only is your priority, but your responsability and obligation... meanwhile your novel is... your hobby.
I don't know if your education is free, but if it's not then it's another reason why you should prioritize your career.
Right now, you can only do what your body allows you to do, going further than that is not going to be healthy and you may end up neglecting both your obligation and hobby.
Your novel is not a sentient being that is going to complain about you investing time or effort in other things, is not like said effort is never going to come back to you and dedicate it to your novel once you have the time and proper rest to be able to work on it.
If you were to do the opposite, dedicate that time to your novel then you'll be neglecting your career, your studies and that would have been worse, especially if there are others supporting you and paying that education, or those that also are dedicating their time and knowledge in teaching you.
Everyone goes on in that frustration of "Oh, I should have spent my time like this or like that" but that regret is a bit meaningless because it is the past, that time may not come back but it's not like you won't be able to do it anymore in the future, I call bullshit to that mindset of "The train passes once in a lifetime", like no, as if you couldn't go to your destination by walking, driving, on a bike and such, it may take longer but even if you were to take that train who even knows if you'll be able to sit down and travel comfortably?
Of course I'm talking from a position where the stories I want to tell or my own personal projects are not a priority in my life, I don't share this big need to put out there something mine like some other authors.
To me is like from when I was a kid, gotta do my homework and keep the grades up if I later want to play videogames without my parents yelling at me or taking away my stuff as a punishment.
