In the past I had a topic similar to this long ago, and I wanted to bring it back after gaining some new resources that helped me really grow as a writer.

The first resource I would like to share is actually an author, James Scott Bell. I am in the process of reading three of his books, Revision and Self-Editing for Publication, Writing Unforgettable Characters, and How to Write Dazzling Dialogue. He has many other books like these that help writers reach their full potential.

This next one was something a writer friend taught me. Plot points, I'm sure many of you know what this is and I'm aware that there are different types of plot points. This is the type that I use.

My writer friend uses 4 plot points, but this six plot points is more my speed.

The last one is a little different from the previous ones I have here, and I use it mainly for creating characters.

You can also use it for timelines and for worldbuilding. However, the free version limits you a lot which is why I mostly use it for creating characters.

I might post more of these in the future, but for now these are what I have. If you have any resources that you would like to share, feel free to do so.

  1. Hello Future Me (Tim Hickson) on YT gives a lot of helpful writing advice I've watched.
  2. The Closer Look: (also on YT) has given me a lot of helpful advice. his stuff is for screenplay writing, but it crosses over.
  3. Grammarly: less helpful now than it used to be, but i still use it for editing.
  4. My editor, he does line editing and developmental editing and he's helped me improve my writing a ton.

From where did you find a reliable editor? I've been looking into it lately but I'm not really sure who to trust.

Some more useful resources are Abbie Emmons on youtube,

and Jed Herne who is also on youtube. He is particularly useful for those who are writing fantasy, and his book is pretty good too. I'm about three chapters in but I recommend it, it's called The Thunder Heist.
