Writing Suggestion: Rewrite your chapters from an alternate POV

Not to post the story this way inherently, but I've rewritten chapters of "Damsel in the Red Dress" twice to put chapters that were originally from Alicia's POV from Kattar's POV.

Both times I found it gave me new insight and details on what took place in the scene that I didn't realize when I had only written it from Alicia's POV. It made the world bigger, the experiences deeper, and the emotions more complex, so I intend to keep doing it as a sort of writing exercise even if I don't share all of them, and I'll probably do the same thing for "Rigamarole."

That's the beauty of writing from first person and including multiple povs. I don't necessarily rewrite the same chapter from two povs but I always include multiple povs in a story. Glad your new experiment is going well for you.

I've been seriously considering rewriting Finding Daecon's Way in the first person POV

oh, I was talking about the POV of different characters in the story, but first person vs. third and so on could count too. you'll see the story differently directly through the characters' eyes than you do as a disconnected narrator I think

That's so wild you asked. I just posted two side stories of the same events from Iris's perspective (Stargazers Part One & Two) and Alden's perspective (The Morning After). What are the odds?

Crazy XD. I've done two from Kattar's POV now and a chapter from Mrs. Moon's POV is coming out on the 27th to celebrate the 6 Month Anniversary of DITRD. (though it's an event that we're ONLY getting to see from her POV set back when Kattar was 3)

Totally. Getting a three-year-old's perspective might be challenging.

lol. probably not for Kattar. He was very emotionally intuitive, and articulate. He has been for basically his whole life and had a surprising understanding of the world around him, which is also going to come up later

Writing a chapter from Mrs. Moon's POV gave me the opportunity for this line that I will probably put down as one of my absolute favorites for the way it so subtly shows the truth of her narcissism that isn't even extremely visible through the eyes of most other characters. It's that insidious that is so dangerous.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but the Songs of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) books are written this way. In fact the chapter names are simply the name of the character whose POV that chapter is in

do they have to number them as well? or do they never recycle POVs?

POV’s are recycled regularly. For example, there are several chapters called “Tyrion”, several called “Bran”, several called “Jon”, and so on.

Finding the chapter you stopped on must be tricky

Does anyone have novels where both perspectives of the same situation are included as canon parts of the story? I have something rather close to that with my new novel "A Dozen Morning Glories" but rather than seeing both perspectives of the exact same situation, the perspectives switch mid-scene.

Finally started working on a chapter from my MLs pov in "A Dozen Morning Glories" and though it took some adjusting too, it's actually pretty fun. Another thing that I've tried recently is writing a chapter of "Damsel in the Red Dress" from my FL's point of view, but back when she was 3 years old, and that's a much different perspective, but it's an interesting one to see.

I'm thinking about writing a chapter from the pov of my FL's 5 year old "daughter" in "A Dozen Morning Glories" now.
