As for the subject matter, I can't think of a general trope of the top of my head, except, some mentioned above, but I sure can rant about one thing that made me rage quit recently.
So we got 2 MC, and you know they're supposed to get together, because the cover and synopsis of the story demands so. So, at first MC1 tries to befriend MC2 (in a spongebob annoying manner, which is already rubbing me the wrong way). MC2 gives him the cold shoulder on multiple occasions, and you'd think a guy would take a hint. But nooooooo, instead, he starts outright bullying the guy with his friends, up to physical assult. For being "stuck up" and "how can he ignore me". Mind that the MC2 doesn't retaliate, pranking back only 1-2 times, because he just wants to be left alone. This goes for a whole year! And then, in a detention scene, MC1 says, that, well, if MC2 just accepted being friends, he wouldn't be such a loner and they wouldn't be here. And the author wants the readers to root for these two getting together?! If this was a book, I'd probably throw it against the wall. And to make matters worse, the comments are filled with squeeling fans, actually waiting them to finally kiss and be together. Nope-nope-nope, I'm out. It takes a special talent to write the protagonist so unlikable, that he'd be the antagonist in any other story about a new guy coming to school. At least with Draco Malfoy Harry wasn't passive about his bullying, so I can at least understand fanfics putting them into "enemies to lovers" trope. Here? MC1 can go get bent.
