I'm generally okay with that, but I have to say it's pretty complicated to balance, because so many futile activities are considered feminine, (which is in itself sexist btw), so rejecting these activities may be a consequence of rejecting futility, not feminity. I can't really imagine writing a woman character who's crazy into fashion or makeup or such, because I'll be thinking, what the point of that? But the same way, I won't be able to write a man spending his time working out. But I think futile activities are more generally considered feminine and that's where the problem occurs for me...
What I would not do, though, is having my characters belittle others for their interests. Unless I want to show that said characters have an awful personality.
