As a romance: Hugo would have to take backseat to either Eva and slinky or the spoiler couple. If it was the spoiler couple it could honestly double as a psycho horror =P

As a slice of life: it would just be kid walking around with some mild reality breaking powers, but it would be pretty chill.

As an isekai shonen anime: it would honestly not be that different from what it is now, which worries me. The only difference is that Eva would be a fan service character, and there would be a 38 chapter long training arc

as a low budget buddy comedy: Hugo and his good chum Ethan try and send kid back home. Hijinks ensue

If it was horror: spoiler 1 would be going on a violent murder spree, making taxidermy statues of the cast to offer as a gift to spoiler 2, who in this universe grew some brain cells and probably got a restraining offer from 1 after a couple months of knowing him.

As a generic animated kids movie: they would go on a rocket and convince the clockworks to please be less evil with the power of friendship, and it would end with a dance party on the moon. Spoiler 2 would be completely heterosexual and be the “bully who befriends the mc” archetype. Ethan would get with an equally heterosexual Eva in the end. Slinky would be voiced by Awkwafina.

If this was sci-fi or a secret agent film:

Kimberly would be the rude female scientist who thinks she's too smart to waste time on the male lead's flirting, but probably ends up being his love interest anyway.

If this was an anime:

She'd be the weird loud friend who's probably one half of a dynamic duo in the main friend group OR

She'd be the two-faced girl who is the female lead's competition because she can win over any man's affections.

If this was a period piece:

She'd be the black girl in the 1900s who defies the odds to move to the big city and become a performer.

If this was an action movie:

Uhh, Kat would play the male lead. He's been in lots of action movies, and though he's not close to muscular enough (though he used to have a lot more muscle tone) to be the lead of a typical western action movie, he would absolutely refuse to be anything less.

He'd probably be the sort of bad attitude lead who swears a whole lot and beats up on the villains way more than is necessary tho, and his female lead would probably end up being a blond lady who was maybe a scientist or something.

If it was an shounen -

He wouldn't be the main character, but the main character's edgy emo rival who is convinced the lead has no idea how important (whatever on earth they are doing/studying/training in is) and is a disgrace to (whatever on earth they are doing/studying/training in) and is just going to slow everyone down/get them killed. He'll constantly tell the MC to go home.

if it was a seinen

he'd probably kill everybody (evil) to save the day, blurring the line of morality until it just looked like a paint splat.

if it was an anime school romance

he'd be the hot, popular rich boy who takes an interest in the poor shy girl (okay, this is already who he is, but he would be cold and kuudere-ish instead of his playful, teasing self)

or he'd just be a brown skinned version of Takeru from "Orange"

if it was a romance webtoon

he'd be a rich manager or CEO, and Alicia would be the girl working for him as a secretary or something that he hires, "falls in love with" and treats like she's his personal possession.

if this was a Hallmark movie

Insert the same role from above, but he got it through nepotism, he's not as overtly toxic, but there's still no good reason for the female lead to want to marry him.

If this was a Disney Sitcom

Leia probably wouldn't be the MC but a mean emo girl the MC doesn't like, or the MCs tomboy friend. She would always speak like she has no energy, probably wear a denim jacket and finger out gloves, and eyeliner more frequently than she usually does. she might also have a hair streak and it would probably be purple.

If she was the lead, they would make her shyer, her voice would be higher, she probably would be a lot more dramatic about her crush and care much more about that than her little brother who they would cut to as a subplot of every episode rather than the male lead.

Again, Leia would probably not be the main character. she'd be reworked as the calm, mature dark haired member of 4-5 piece friend group and probably get the least attention and dialog except for the parts when she needs to tell off a bully or give the shy, insecure high-voiced female lead a pep-talk.

She'd be the super hot tough tomboy-ish girl who doesn't want to work with the male lead because she's a loner. He's probably interested in her and she's always like 'I work solo' and trying to leave him behind until she ends up having to work with him anyway for some reason.

she'd be trying to fix the car and probably get killed trying to save someone or get someone into the car while swearing at them the whole time like "I told you to get in the car idiot-"

she wouldn't exist...? does Hallmark make tomboys?

Riley would probably be the MCs brother who gets next to no screen time, or an emo member of the MLs friend group.

He'd be the dark haired kuudere-ish male lead who doesn't associate with anyone but the shy FL has a crush on him.

???

He might be a teen the ML finds when he's looking for survivors who gives him some information but probably has very little bearing on the rest of the plot.

He'd probably die being selfish and trying to escape without everyone else

He'd be a random teenager who only appears in one scene, since Hallmark doesn't appear to care about teens.

this is available for free for everyone to read on my Patreon public posts

For Dominic Giang

Well, if it was a super-hero action story, Dominic would probably be the MCs best friend. He'd probably have a crush on some scientist girl from something like S.H.E.I.L.D. who would kind of look down on him, but maybe end up accepting his number at some point toward the end of the movie.

The loud short guy who is probably insecure about his height on a sports team.

he'd be a quiet boy who's insecure about his height and too shy to talk to the popular pretty tall girl, but then she takes notice of him and he's absolutely dumbstruck that such a goddess would go out with him.

He'd probably be the male secretary of the much more conventionally Webtoon attractive boss who is really only there for gags. he might wear glasses.

He'd be the female lead's best friend who is there for two conversations so the viewers can hear some exposition.

Essence would probably be a female scientist, but she probably wouldn't be the love interest. If she was, it would most likely only be in a movie where the ML is also black.

She probably wouldn't exist, tbh. If she was, she'd probably just be a foreign girl on a sports team from another country that you see at one tournament in passing.

again, wouldn't exist, unless the romance was specifically about a guy falling in love with a foreign exchange student, in which case, she would be the foreign exchange student.

same role as above, except she could also be a foreign secretary perhaps, or businesswoman.

she'd be a background character who probably works at the same company as the female lead and gets like two lines of dialog.

as it is, she's the female lead of my new novel instead, where she'll get ample time to shine, thank goodness

Honestly, you could make the argument that Apparent Secrets is only a fantasy romance from Iris's perspective. Here's each character's genre, if they were the main character:

Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie: Zayzann's journey from Zhalterra to Earth as a shapeshifting alien bird-person. (think "Resident Alien") :joy:

Fantasy Adventure Popcorn Flick: Byxx Malignar's ascension to champion of the Forbidden Wastes. He patrols a desert that spreads out like an eternity in all directions, righting wrongs and saving the day.

Art-House Cerebral Thriller: Khazmine's mission to Earth, and her quest to seek out an enemy Augment bent on destroying the race that made them both.

Inspirational Feel-Good Fantasy Movie: Curtis's long road to self-acceptance is made much easier after he meets a helpful stranger from out of this world.

I hadn't thought about the fact that the story would be a different genre just through y other characters eyes, though I am wanting to do a side book from Melissa's POV which might be a little more drama than romance just because of the nature of how her marriage came to be and all that jazz

Lyza's Sandstorm

If it was a slice-of-life/high school, I did imagine Lyza and others in a high schoolers in which Lyza is competing in a volleyball tournament, for some reasons. Many of the boys want to be with her and whatnot. She would also have really cool girl friends.

For horror, not sure who's gonna be the monster? Lyza can be the one scaring the monsters, anyway. The "Scream" guy would get his ass handed to him.

To do it with Ayla

no one puts babies in horror movies right? right?

i for sure hope not.

Maybe she would live if the hero found her, she/he would probably defend Ayla with their life, and their selflessness would probably be the reason the hero would also live.

well, if she was several years older, she'd probably be the quirky girl who has a crush on the protagonist but doesn't end up with him. she wouldn't be devastated though, just a little bummed and then move on and end up befriending the leads.

as it is, since she's five, she's probably that same character/roles hyperactive little sister.

again, not a lot of space for babies. Insert role from the horror plot above.

seriously, nobody cares about little little kids it seems. She'd be the child of the male lead's mostly irrelevant sister who gives him some advice in one scene and just feels extraneous in all the rest of them. Or maybe if the ML is a pediatrician, she'd be a cute kid at the hospital that he's nice to, because being nice to children makes him husband material even if he's generally boring in every other way?

Texas would probably be the monster disguised as a normal girl who gets into the leads' friend group.

She'd be a quiet girl most people thought was kind of scary though she's really nice. Then the ML would decide to befriend her.

She'd be someone random who works at the FLs job and probably has a more unique personality than the lead

16 days later

If the story was a highschool romance, Mora would be the shy teenager who is insecure about her vitiligo, but somehow gets the attention of the popular, conventionally attractive boy, who falls in love with her. Christopher George IS (blonde hair, 6'0, blue eyes) conventionally attractive, but his personality is so unconventional, that he's still not really popular.

20 days later

If the story was historical romance, Therese and Verner....would be almost exactly the same. It would just be them back when they first met in the sixties but without all the drama that made them have to wait until the 2000s to have their first kid.

If it were horror
It would mostly follow hapless people who are tortured by Bob's (the alien) sadistic torment probably psychologically until they're driven to insanity and self-harm.
If it were a fantasy
Triangle gets isekaied along with his teddy bear to a magical land of stuffed animals where he's the chosen ruler. He has to choose between abandoning his friends in the human world or leaving the stuffed animal kingdom without a leader to save them from the wrathful kingdom of banned toys.
If it were action
After an international journalistic assignment goes astray, Triangle gets abducted by a legion of leftist guerillas who change his global outlook. He ends up being recruited as part of the team whose goals are to coalesce the working class to wage a class war against the ruling elites.

Texas would be the innocent girl who lives, but she'll probably risk every one's lives trying to save her cat pudding too.

She would be the weird loud girl whose friends with the female lead and telling her she needs to be brave and talk to the boy she likes.

Ummm...

She would be an allegedly 'quirky' artist, who isn't really quirky except that they mention her having an interest in children's cartoons or something like that, like one time, and she has blue hair. She wouldn't be uninterested in guys but too busy working to think about having a boyfriend until her truck breaks down in a random town and she can't paint or sculpt anything. she probably falls in love with the guy who finds her stranded just outside the town.

If it was Fantasy:

Rivo, a peasant farmboy would stumble across the other 3 friends, who are "brave" nights trying to prove themselves worthy by going on a Monty Python and the Holy Grail style journey to slay the evil entity. They convince the reluctant hero Rivo to join their party.

If it was a Horror:

Rivo, and his 3 friends, in an attempt to go viral online, do a scary social media challenge that involves communicating with demons. All hell breaks loose, everyone gets possesed and scary supernatural stuff happens. Would be in a found footage style like Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.

If it was a anime school slice-of-life/romance:

Rivo would not be the main character, but rather Lyndi Croyle. It would probably just be love triangle story where Lyndi falls for all 3 of the others:

Talon: The Jock

Rivo: The shy but sweet boy.

Jojo: The Tsundere

If it was a Western:

Would probably still be the same story, just without the modern social media stuff, where they become infamous outlaws in the west robbing banks and getting drunk at the saloon which honestly sounds pretty sick as well. Would love to make a western story one day.
