Right now I have a weird little hallway nook where I have my desk but I only really work there if I have to do anything computer related (scanning, digital coloring, emails, zoom meetings). If I’m drawing or writing I tend to do it in my living room because it has a ton more natural light. Sometimes I’ll do this stuff at a coffee shop or a bar (if I feel like working late into the evening) or at a park too.
I have had a couple shared studio spaces over the years with other cartoonists and I think that’s my ideal (especially my favorite that was just a block from my apartment). I like having to leave my comfy place to get into a work flow. I also like having to work around other people who do the same thing as me because we all end up kind of feeling of having to look super productive around other people? I’m not sure why but I have my theories. Its also nice to have a group of people where if they’re all nice could like pick up a coffee or snack for you while there out for lunch and maybe if we all wanna head out at the same time we can all grab a post-comics drink at a bar. I think I’ve convinced myself to start looking for studio spaces again…..
