Your favourite non-disney animated films?

This movie called children who chase lost voices is so amazing this is probably one of the few anime looking movies that I will watch again, I wish they made a sequel to this

Hmmm so many people have mentioned really beautiful ones already!

I really recommend The breadwinner, it made me cry so much, it has traditional great animation and the ending wasn’t a downer.

Also I know it’s late for the holidays but KLaus has some STUNNING 2D animation you’d expect it to be 3D, and the humour (to me at least) has been fantastic.

I want to suggest A SILENT VOICE because it’s both gorgeous and the plot and the way it shows school bullying and the characters felt incredibly real. I could almost say it had so much realism to it it did get hard to watch but WELL WORTH it, (also some sign language rep and a deaf character who actually sounds as though she was played by one)

And I also recommend RED SHOES AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

Not because it’s astounding or anything, but it had a solid plot and a good message (And really cute characters) but the add campaign really killed this movie with their objectifying the MC. Separate from the adds, it was just really sweet and the MC and the LI are really cute together ^^

Also I know we’ve gotten so much stuff from Netflix from me already, and it’s not a movie, but it kind of feels like one with the characters and the animation is so striking and different, I really recommend Hilda

It is a show, but you can tell there’s and overarching plot and it’s nots very long (it’s not completed yet, but I didn’t think it would hurt to show ^^)

But anyways Shrek is kinda like that, though I find all the movies where pretty cool and all but yeah... 🏽

My favorite Western, non-Disney animated movies:

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

Anomalisa (2015)

The Lord of the Rings (1978)

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012)

Tower (2016)

...Among others. These are all quite lovely movies and I highly recommend all of them.

My collection is a bit less child-oriented and slightly more obscure. Yellow Submarine, Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers (Satoshi Kon died far too soon), Persepolis, a good chunk of Studio Ghibli (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is my particular favorite, although Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are very good too).

Honestly, there are so many more I've been meaning to see.

Heck, my all-time favorite animated film EVER is Spirited Away.

It is just a masterpiece of cinema work and rivals any Disney renaissance period.

Western stuff, anything stop-motion, not specifically done by the studio Laika, but stuff in that vein. While it's aired on Disney before, it's not actually Disney - Shaun the Sheep.

I'm also sad this movie didn't do good with reviewers. It's one of my favorite in terms of sass.

Oooooffff way too many XD from western to anime and arthouse. But I'll slap down some of my personal favs

Flight of dragons (cos...dragons XD)

Vampire hunter D bloodlust - TW TRAILER HAS BLOOD (cos hot daym and yes I also love the 80's one too but this one is a lil more suitable for those curious of the VHD franchise)

Wolf Walkers cos Cartoon Saloon's work is stunning

The Mabinogi / The otherworld - animated adaption of the better known tales from welsh myth (contains nudity and blood so be warned) (saddly the hq version that was up has recently been removed from youtube 8c)

There's a bunch more anime wise but being 80-early 90s hyper violent sort best I don't post the trailers here XD

It was made when Disney were going bust in the mid to late 80s along with other box office gems/bombs Oliver and Company,Basil the great mouse detective etc
Other (great) dark live action stuff was made by Disney during that era like Something wicked this way comes, Return to Oz.
Ironically losing money as they were a bit more experimental then.

Little Mermaid saved the company. Its been generic pap ever since. XD
