Your favourite non-disney animated films?

I was going to say just animated films, but since 99% would be disney renessaince or frozen all disney is banned from this topic.

What do you mean my hatred for disney is showing?

Anyway, mine are in no particular order:

1. How To Train Your Dragon
The most general plot of all time with the most tired tropes, and it's somehow still amazing.

2. Kung Fu Panda 2
I cried. Twice. In a movie called Kung Fu Panda.

3. Prince of Egypt

Best looking animated film of all time.

4. ParaNorman
Surprisingly dark. Not to mention the seamless stop motion and 3D blend, ahhh <3

5. Epic
It's not good. At all. It's SO pretty though. Blue Sky makes the best looking movement, but gosh darn if their films aren't the worst crap on the market.

6. Titan A.E
It's not good either. But it has a worn out place deep in my heart. I don't know why. But it does.

7. Watership Down

For the childhood trauma. Based on a book that is probably the most boring book in the history of man. The voice acting, the art, the bizarre plot all just makes for the weirdest horror film of all time.

Idk if it's worse that when I saw it I was at first like "Wait what was that" and seconds later "Oh right, it's a french film" xD.

I dunno why I used to think Anastasia was Disney as a kid. I think because I had seen all of the other "Disney Princesses", it sorta stuck.

But Scooby Doo on Zombie Island was the stuff. I loved that movie so much! And it was on a VHS my mom had recorded for me (I had the official but lost it), and it was recorded with Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders and Scooby Doo meet the Ghoul School. So I got to see all the 1990s/early 2000 commercials that I really loved too. It felt like watching tv (we had tv, but you know the saying XD). God I know I've lost that tape by now, but I still had it well into my teens and still watched it to death XD

Now I just downloaded all the movies to watch. Much easier XD

I think it's because it's very disney-esque by it's plot (as it follows a traditional fairytale arch & is a musical).A lot of people think How to train your dragon is disney too, which is like the ultimate insult to dreamworks. It'd be funny if disney wasn't such a shitty company hell bent on destroying all competitors...

I had it on VHS too! I used to watch it all the time. I never saw any of the other scooby doo films though, my brothers or I weren't really into scooby doo as a whole. I don't think I've ever even seen a full episode. We loved that film though!

Oh hey, I forgot to include this Don Bluth film. The end was so scary. Actually most of it was super scary.

Oh my gosh, I know. Like, there are so many other good films aside from Disney. Don't get it wrong, they had some good ones, but like....if I have to look back on the old ones to say "they're good", that's not good. Moana was pretty good, but I'm...just not a Disney kid.

Grew up on Looney Tunes, Ed Edd n Eddy, Scooby Doo, and the rest of them back on Cartoon Cartoon.

Speaking of Scooby Doo, I can totally get that. Like, even now, I don't watch any of the new movies or the new series. I cut it off after I watched "What's New Scooby Doo?" and the movie "Scooby Doo in Cyberchase". Everything else is just...over the top XD

Yeah for sure. Like I do love a choice of disney films(espes renessaince) but my all my favourite animated films are like exclusively dreamworks.

Okay so I haven't seen Moana, but I do have a thing I feel I need to say about it. After I saw the trailer I felt there was something really familiar about her design, but this song highlighted it for me

She has the exact same rig that rapunzel has. Her facial deformations are the same (Rig means the "skeleton" of a 3D model. Facial deformations are preset expressions made for the model). How lazy can you be. That's the third movie they've recycled the rigs for.

Also as a side note like idk what sort of bribery is going on with the academy awards but the best animated feature went to FUCKING FRANKENWEENIE instead of ParaNorman, or even Wreck-it-ralph, in 2014 and like frankenweenie was some next level garbage. But then again the year that frozen won they all but admitted that they don't even watch the films... Just slap it on either disney or tim burton and done.

I had Iron Giant in my head when I was compiling my list, but then I forgot it after all... Dang. Glad someone remembered it x) Iron giant has some really good looking 3D-that-tries-to-look-like-2D.

Great characterization, breathtaking animation, and a bittersweet story of friendship. And it's loosely based on true events.

2 . Once Upon a Forest
just look at those cheeks This is such a cute movie..

3 . The Iron Giant
Already been listed, but I did enjoy this movie, too!

4 . Balto
Basically the Alaskan Simba as far as I'm concerned.

5 . Curious George
SO. MUCH. COLOR. I loved the color palette for this film and still do today! This movie is a big inspiration to how I color (or want to color) things.

rip traditional animation i love some of the graphics that come from 3D animation but nothing beats the beautiful flow you get from good handdrawn stuff

Shrek, but only the first and the second one........after that.....it lost it`s magic. They should have stopped after doing the second. Then we would have better memories of this franchise.
