Your first Comic you ever made

Darkness Within sounds awesome- I would have loved to read that!!! What are the chances of you rebooting it? I know what you mean about having stories locked up in storage. I haven't seen some of my own trunk-novels since I moved in 2013. I miss all of those old stories I wrote! Whenever I write new story ideas I always find myself pulling out some old ideas or characters from those stories- the ones I can actually remember LOL!

Well, I can't remember the comics I drew when I was a child, so I'll just talk about one of the first comics I posted on the internet. It took me such a long time to get used to the idea of sharing anything with the internet....

Years ago, when I was a ABJD collector, I was a huge fan of a brand called Blue Fairy. The only thing you need to know about Blue Fairy is that, at the time, they sold two types of dolls: medium dolls called Tiny Fairies and micro dolls called Pocket Fairies. A long while back, their main website was on a year long hiatus, so we had to buy all of their products from it's sister site Minoruworld. I bought the last copy of my favorite head mold and I got this automated message after my order was confirmed- it was so funny, I had to draw a comic for it.

It was the first time I illustrated a joke from my imagination for the doll fandom. I hope the company never saw the other comics I made about them during that hiatus- I made fun of them A LOT!

Right now I'm trying to complete my first long-form story, livNPC. I've been working on it for a year so it has a 7 month, 348 page buffer. The queue just started running yesterday. Most of the characters come from some of my old trunk-novels, but a handful are brand new.

I can't believe it was so long ago! Back in 8th grade I used to write parodies of TV shows. A friend took a liking to my Star Trek parodies. I'd always wanted to turn my stories into comics, as there are some things difficult to portray in prose. So I turned them into a poorly drawn comic with no backgrounds and hard to read dialogue. And it was a hit. I did a few X-Files parodies in High Shcool. I've never done a complete story since, clinging to making comic strip shorts.

Me and reboots have a strange relationship, I did one of a comic before but the story was sloppy. Maybe, one day I may reboot it,since it is the first comic I ever wrote and I haven't actively drawn anything from the story since 2007. I would overhaul the characters, design and the execution of the plot. The comic you have presented here seems interesting, it pokes fun at Minoruworld. I will also take a look at your present comic later. Also thanks for letting me wjhat you thought of Darkness Within.

I drew my first comic ages ago, probably when I was 6 or 7. It was drawn on a school notebook which my parents probably chucked out already. I don't even remember what it was >< I think it has something to do with Ghibli-influenced themes. The main character was a princess named Laura and I chucked in all my other fandoms and favourite characters into the comic as I went along (kinda like one big mashed up doujin). I didn't think too clearly about the plot, pacing or where this was going and the art was simply done with pencil on lined paper. I skipped drawing backgrounds and put in extra effort drawing scenes that I liked xD But this comic went on for ages, drawn purely for fun without worrying whether people will like it or not. Ahh, good times.

The drawings look very good, they have a dark and griddy look to them. I do agree, the text is hard to read.

That sounds like gag-a-day comics that seem to be popular here at Tapastic. If you are still interested in silly situations and mash ups in your comic would you consider start making one?

It also took a lot of space over the artwork.
I now work with only 3 rows per page max. So that's better.
We should always learn from mistakes, right?

Nah, it wasn't a gag-a-day. It was still a plot based story with several arcs, just that it had no conclusion. There is a beginning and the characters eventually solve whatever conflict they're facing, live happily ever after for a while and then another conflict arises. Then favourite characters from a series I was into at the time are introduced into the story just for the heck of it LOL

So it was kind of thoughtless, "go with the flow" story building. I'm sure I won't go back to making those, but it was fun working on a comic without worrying if it makes for good story

The first EVER was when I was in second grade. I got bored and drew a four panel comic about my dog, a golden retriever, accidentally falling into a well and then shaking the water off. I brought it home to my mom and she loved it haha She liked how I drew the water shaking off.

But my first comic attempt was really Life Can Be... here on Tapastic. My first serious, story-driven comic is also here on Tapastic, The Underground. Yup, I'm a noob haha

I made my first comic when I was 5, entitled Super Chew Toy. It revolved around the titular chew toy going around and solving problems in the city he lived in. I was mostly influenced by comics like Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side. It spanned 8 volumes and I actually tried to revive it in 2011 to no avail, mostly because I had no work ethic back then. Since Super Chew Toy, I've done numerous other comics, including adaptations of Regular Show and The Amazing World of Gumball.

I'm currently making Seriously Dude, a gag-based comic.

My first comic ever, I made when I was 12, with a classmate. We were both really big fans of samurai stuff, so we made a weird sci-fi samurai comic, childishly hand drawn and coloured, with great effort, in the recesses between classes.

I remember they had crazy blue hair, and were fighting an evil genius.

Only one copy exists and it's probably long gone by now, since it was left at the school.

My firstest comic was... a Lady Lovely Locks fanzine. Judging by my handwriting and the fact that I was still obsessed with LLL and Animaniacs I would place this at about 1994?
I wasn't great at drawing the Lady herself, but it looks like I had a decent grip on the Pixietails.
A few months later, I would've seen Sailor Moon for the first time, and moved on to making fanzines about my Sailor OCs.

I didn't start playing around with paneling until my recent comic Seishin Patona, so I am somewhat slow to the game of dynamic paneling.

I remember in middle school I did a gag-a-day comic with characters from the Mario franchise but, in my sophomore year of high school I wanted to create a more serious comic with an actual plot so I decided to make Darkness Within.

We all have to start somewhere, to tell you the truth I made a gag-a-day comic about the adventures of an old turtle and youth dumb turkey entitled, "Tim and Al". Then in 2006 I made my first real attempt at a comic entitled Darkness Within. I will take a look at you work later.

It's funny you mention a samurai and blue hair. In the last two years of high school my brother and I made a comic called Mystic Blades about two brothers. One had blue slicked back hair and the other had blue-green "Sasuke like hair"

It's funny you mention Sailor Moon because my sister was a big fan of that when she was a kid.

I guess i was 7 or 8. This shy classmate next to me always drew the most amazing stuff. He was kind of the nerd of the class and got a bit bullied which i felt a bit sorry for... but man, i was fascinated by him! Because he could draw the most amazing stuff. And i just tried to copy him. Learned so much from him. Even did some comics together. But my own first comic i remember making was something of a spaceship (ofcourrse!) shooting other spaceships. PewPewPew!! Astroids crashing and planets being blown up.

Later on i can remember making a comic about a guy in a big car riding through the dessert. Meeting all kind of weird creatures and evil professors... ( looking back now, i was soooo inspired by the movie Mad Max i had seen ) After a couple a years i started to draw myself as a cartoon character... In the picture you can see a first version of me picking my nose Well, that never stopped.

Drawing myself ever since as a cartoon character. Which led to my new comic... To be a Comic!
