The one I use on Tapas and Instagram is basically a cropped version of my webcomic cover, featuring Adrian, one of the main characters:

Me, I don't often change my profile picture, regardless of the website I'm on. I only change it when I put a random profile photo just enough time to register in order to put the "official" profile photo, therefore more legitimate. Since I started to be an actor-user of the web and not a visitor, reading lots of articles and looking around, I came to understand that I had to adopt the same identity everywhere. Almost for the same reason as underlined @gmaximin

Otherwise, my profile picture is fairly recent. I started using it on another comic book sharing website. And to a report with a comic book project on content creators:

I just updated mine to an image of Audrey Hepburn (see my little profile pic) because I was reading about her, and I think she’s just awesome. She was style icon (obviously), but that’s not what makes her so impressive. She never tried to be as small and petite as she was—she wasn’t one of those actresses who intentionally starved herself. She grew up in flippin’ WW2 and lived off beets because everyone was starving in the Netherlands while the Nazis were in control. And she, being a malnourished ballerina, raised money for the Dutch Resistance by playing illegal events at night (events that could have gotten her killed) and helped raise money to hide thousands of Jews living in the Netherlands at that time.

Then she went on to become a movie star, kept her star status a secret from her children so they would grow up humble (in the days before internet it was possible), and eventually retired to work as a humanitarian aid all over the world until her death.

She was a duchess by blood and a queen by the way she lived. That’s a role model if there ever was one.

You draw a new profile picture every month?!?! Thats insane...i can't relate I've never liked drawing myself, so I've always used a character from my artwork for a profile picture and I changed it pretty infeequently. Then, my friend did this meet the artist meme in the style of a visual novel game and it just looked so fun, i drew myself for the first time in years. Now it's my profile picture. Admittedly, it does make me feel like a °•°•professional artist•°•° to have my profile pic be a self portrait.
