Waw look at all these cool improvements. It's really nice to see other artists progress, and your own ability too, for that matter. So I think this thread is well worth it.

I'd like to share my oc and his progression over the years, which is making myself snicker when I look back at it now.

So many artist discovered such great and unique styles. I really love how you can still see everyone's character still in the newer renditions. Certain things are lost, of course, by the core of the character seems to carry on every time.

Loving this thread! It's great to see how everyone's characters have evolved over time.

Sara and Nick from my current comic Love Debut have been with me since 2008. Here they are again in 2014.

Aside from the cosmetic differences, Sara became less physically tough (before, she taught Tae Kwon Do and did a fair bunch of kicking/punching in the story). She got a little more shy and a little more snarky. Nick got shorter; his modest height is a running joke in this current story line. And though he's equally cocky, he's much more genuine and sincere. Before, I over-complicated their characters; now I'm going by my gut instinct, and it feels great.

The before is a redraw of my old style from when I was mmmm 16 maybe.
Even my style from two years ago is dramatically different.

So these are the changes that happened with my original character Lucy Mays.

2011 first design with traditional watercolor.

2012 lots of leather, drawn traditionally and colored with Gimp

In late 2013 I decided that another revamp needed to be made since I was in the middle of writing the story, drawing this outfit was also a pain in the ass and it looked like Lucy couldn't breath or even move in that outfit which is bad since she has to move around a lot in order to slay demons etc. So I went back to the drawing board and this was my final result.

This isn't a character from my comic, but it's definitely the starkest example I have of any of my characters' designs developing over time. The first image was drawn in 2005 when I was 15, the second in late 2014, so almost ten years later. The design is pretty much unrecognisable, but his personality has stayed very similar.

Personally, the new design looks a lot more approachable / likeable!

My leading lady never changed all that much since her 'birth' in 2010. But my leading lad Ashley started off as a rather archetypical 'living-in-the-woods-and-being-a-solitary-hunter-creep' kind of guy. I realized later on that this wasn't him and that I wanted him to be weird, but a lot more social, albeit still pretty awkward and confused. Now he's a nurse, lives in the suburbs, and gets tired of his friends presuming he must be gay because he's more feminine than most folks are used to.

My strip Rain Dogs hasn't really stuck to single characters through it's entire run, and not all of them are on Tapastic. But as far as how the strip has progressed in style, here's a comparison from the first strip with one of the latest:

I don't even use this style in my comic. It's too time consuming and my current schedule is too hectic. Maybe I might use this style for a future project. Maybe.

Oh lordy, okay. I got a bit of history for my comic ;v;! I'm the creator of Guardia: The Tales of Halgeis, but it didn't really officially become a comic until after I got out of college.

These were the first concepts of the main character, Yggdra. However, back then in college, she was nothing more than a character I made just for my cartooning class. But I liked the charcter a lot so I kept her and started working on her a little more as a role playing character when I used to be into it. After I got out from RPing, I made her an ask blog on tumblr in 2012 along with another character that appeared with her. While I was working on the ask blog (It wasn't very active as I was involved in a Pokemon comic group for a good 2 years) I started getting story ideas and ended up fleshing out a comic. I did world building for that year coming up with more character concepts, building the lore, creating a language, and inputting the magic system, and eventually....

Voila! My little fuzzy child to this day ;v;!
