I don't like photobashing, like people have said, it is okay in concept art because concept art is not a finished product but more like a mood board for a final result. I can ALWAYS tell when someone has used a photo or a 3D element and most of the time it's done very badly. The perspective is off, the characters float over the background, it all looks very suspicious.
Siren's Lament just recently started doing that and I am not a big fan of it because the characters always look a bit off when you put them in those environments. I HAVE photobashed for things that I can't draw, like vehicles and architecture. I trace over things and make them my own so they feel like they belong to my comic and then I color them rather than using a straight up photo and dropping it in, putting some sick layer effects on that and call it a day. I attached the few instances where I have used photobashing. The pictures of the car are traced, the house is traced, but the interior is ALL done using old school perspective and references.
I think that hides the photobashing better when you show that you CAN draw but somethings need a little help, you know?
I am not a fan of tracing your character poses, though, and I will not read a comic I can tell is tracing their poses, I don't know why, it's just a personal preference. I feel like it makes everything look stiff and forced and I don't want to put up with that.
