It would be great to hear different opinions! Do you think it's good to change the thumbnail occasionally, or to keep the old thumbnail as long as you can.

There's definitely no harm in updating your series thumbnail every now and again. Especially when you've reached a different arc of your story or your art has changed or improved. Some folks will keep the same one for a long time but some will change it per chapter or arc of a story so it depends on what works for you

Always good to change it once you've improved your art enough. And if you've improved it a LOT, it's good to change the cover too! You give a clear impression to your most recent level of skill, or current art style, instead of the "you" from months or years ago.

Every update of my novel has a different thumbnail art XD And it's actually part of my goal to make more since they're just little chibi heads of the main cast. Must...make..one...for...each.... +w+

Ha, as a deeply unartistic person (can't draw to save my life), I've just gone with the same picture of the Blue Ridge Mountains for my chapter thumbnails, except they grow very gradually darker (hint hint at things to come). I did make something a bit fancier for the book thumbnail with Canva, though.

As a reader, I don't think changing your thumbnail is especially necessary, even if you're doing a comic rather than a novel. I like that little spark of recognition I get when I spot a familiar thumbnail. I like it when they change, too, as it's always fun to see what the new design looks like, but I definitely don't think keeping the same thumbnail for a longer period of time is something people should worry about.
