Your Usual Writing Tools?

What are your typical tools to write the stories you publish on Tapas (or, if you want, elsewhere)?

I’ll start: I’m very reliant on Google Docs…

Now, this isn't me trying to change anyone's mind about their favorite writing application. I'm just giving my personal experience and findings. There are changes in settings you can make to potentially prevent companies from sharing unpublished work.

For the longest time, I would say I loved using Google Docs for writing drafts for novels/comics, but with the implementation of AI to read your emails, messages, documents and images, I've decided to migrate elsewhere. It took me months, so the transition wasn't easy.

Anyway, currently I'm using Libre Office for writing my stories, it's the closest to Google Docs in my opinion without the AI hassle. As for the other stuff, there's a different application I found to replace their other services. I won't go into details since it would be too technical and may change the topic at hand. xD

As someone who has never used a PC, my Android device provides tools to keep my work secure.

Markor is a markdown editor app, excellent for writing and refining edits. It supports various codes besides markdown.

Google Docs is another tool I still use. The common misconception that AI will steal your work is merely fear speaking. In my opinion, AI cannot access Google Docs unless granted permission or a connection line. Your work is safe within your Google and Google Drive accounts; it's more of a developer issue.

Additionally, if someone has ample space and storage, they can use an editor like Markor, save their work, encrypt it, and then send it to the cloud to preserve their legacy, of course.

Write mostly on libreoffice.

I use google docs if i'm sharing it with a group.

Used Microsoft Word up to college, when I stopped bothering to pay for it.

I use a physical notepad with a pen or pencil to brainstorm and deconstruct my scenes with. Sometimes just writing down my train of thought.

Then for the actual writing I've used Microsoft Word up until now, but since I switched over to Linux I've been trying out Libre Office Writer.

I'm not a writer but my best friend is working on her first book. She uses Ink and paper in a fancy way for her first draft and then tipes it into the computer for the second draft.

Pens (at least 2 colors), a notebook, sticky notes, a binder (to collect random notes and keep a semblance of organization) and Microsoft Word.

Been coding for decades so my go to is simple Notepad. The new adapation of dark mode is a BIG HELP with sight issues.
I also like going back to the stories for my manga in my 1990s highschool notebooks. And use sticky notes.
I will also play around with experimental panel sectioning in a small lined note pad on a tiny clipboard.
I dont use AI for anything.
I prefer paper its antiglare, no bluelight filter needed and no eye strain for me.

I always write in notebooks and printer papers that i have at hand.

On the computer, i always go to the simplicity, I write in Word and Notepad.

I alternate between devices when I write, so I use Google Docs because I can transfer my progress.

I write my main document in Office Libre, and I write on the go in just a note app on my phone. Like half of my novels are written on my phone, it's just too hard to carve out time in my day when I can just sit for hours in front of my computer and write, so I write little paragraphs here and there while I'm on the go.

Normally I find typing novels on my phone way too tedious, so I’m impressed you can do that often!

I used to note down all of my Story related stuff in a Massive Black Hard Cover Notebook with multiple sticky notes on it and colored pens lmao.

But down the line, once I discovered Google Docs, I migrated my work to there. Which took... some time to say the least.

However it was very convenient honestly. I can easily find and group up all my stuff with little to no issues.

I use One Note and sometimes little pocket notebooks for jotting down quick ideas.
One Note is great because I can create an entire ecosystem for a story with worldbuilding and outlines and such. (Started using it initially for D&D campaigns)
But I really don't make scripts for my comics, I just have lots of quick ideas jotted down and my loose story bible.
I have also been trying out Obsidian because it's like One Note but it doesn't steal your data like Microsoft does. I have it on my phone only at the moment. It's free for one device but has a cheap paid tier for syncing multiple devices.

Yeah, Obsidian has been my go-to for chapter outline planning and worldbuilding in general!
