I can't think of enough images to fill my own, but it sure is neat to see everyone's boards!

The secret rule is that you put stuff like puppies and kittens on your mood board as a distraction!!

For Cosmic Fish, I mostly just have a lot of files in my computer along with some photographs I've taken since the comic is based a lot on local culture.

What a beautiful palette! I love the theme of darkness in contrast with light in these images.

What a fun idea! <3 <3 <3 It was actually really hard to break it down and figure out what might've influenced it, not just random images that remind me of it. But very satisfying. Bonus points if you're also a fan of everything on this.

It's a pretty neat exercise isn't it? Great way of figuring out stuff like setting, color, and even target audience! I swear I've seen that one with the five people standing behind a bright background somewhere..!

Most of my inspirations come from reading other peoples comics, but if I also find some of my inspiration from Lord of the rings, Harry potter, the Bone comic's, Alice in wonderland, wizard of oz, Avatar the last air bender, spirited away, European mythology, places in Ireland, old historical structures, and dogs because I use to have one c:

Fables! That's a neat series.

I love fables - I have the entire series in paperbacks, plus the spinoffs - and i list it as inspiration mostly as a way of savagely criticizing a story (in their case, many of the fairy tales), whilst also being respectful and reverential to the source material. i try to balance the mockery/respect in my series pretty carefully.

A lot of it kinda falls together under similar stance and style? Not much else to say...I get a lot of inspiration from more nature/spiritual based work and good ol' Victorian and steampunk.

Oh man, @hades, your moodboard and your title image are so in sync! I love the colours you draw from, you really work them so well! And your ability to make geometric shapes so organic is brilliant coming from the source images! and the touches of a Mesoamerican flair is something else, stellar work!

Yeah I like Fables's unique setting- putting fairytale characters into a sorta "modern" setting is pretty darn clever. Some of the writing is rather old-fashioned for me, but I do quite like the series. The last I read was Volume 7; Arabian Nights and Days.

Yep, that's how it works! If there's a cohesive style and mood going through, then it shows you have a good direction for your story.

For Daniel, there was a LOT more movie influence than art/animation influence. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but I tried to remember what I could.

Top left: Film noir. Just in general. One thing I didn't include here was Boardwalk Empire which kind of gave me the final push into setting Daniel in a fedora-wearin' time, though I was already into old movies and other things as well at the time so I didn't include it.
Top right: Many different vampire movies/stories influenced Daniel, though one that left a particularl impact on me and went into Daniel's mood is the '70s remake of Nosferatu. It has a pretty darn eerie atmosphere and feels like a silent film without actually being one.
Middle-top left: Peter Lorre...in several roles, though the one that had the most influence was his short but freakin' disturbing perfomance in Stranger On The Third Floor (possibly the first film noir, go figure).
Middle-top right: Dwight Frye's take on Renfield in the '30s Dracula. It's what me got me thinking about "what if the more Renfield-esque creepy guy was the vampire".
Middle-lower left: Basically ANY vampire movie I've seen where the victims become shadows of their former selves, I just showed Salem's Lot here but movies like Fright Night and The Lost Boys had some influence as well.
Middle-lower right: The movie Night of the Hunter influenced me....mainly with it's cinematography and creepy atmosphere. I also didn't show it here but any movie by Val Lewton also contributed in the "atmosphere and mood" influence.
Botttom left: The vampire hysteria of Europe, particularly the story of Petar Blagojevich, but also the myths from that time. Researched the hell out of this stuff.
Bottom right: Stanley Kubrick. Just....most anything Kubrick. The cinematography, the characters, how he goes about horror and building tension, everything.

I was tempted to add more too! Hard to resist the urge XD I like this moodboard. Has a dark post-apocalypse adventure feel to it.
