One of my recent pages that I have just completed painting with watercolor. [image] Diary of a Douchebag is currently readable in black and white on this site.
Thanks. Yeah I plan on doing the narration by hand once I'm done coloring the comic. The black and white pages are really a rough draft. That's why the spelling and grammar can be pretty bad. I was mostly just curious on how the comic would read.
Yeah. I may want to try shorter stuff but I really enjoy writing longer narratives and developing characters. Also as much as I talk about quitting comics, I'll probably start working on new stuff after I graduate. One of the reasons I'm becoming a teacher is because I'll have two months of summer…
Hey thanks for reading. Glad you enjoyed it and thought it was good (good in italics means it's 100x better than a normal good). I still plan on painting it. I don't use computer for color. I actually go reprint out the pages on watercolor paper and I paint over it. It takes a long time but it's m…
Yeah. I think I'm going to stop doing comics for awhile once I finish this one. Comics are a lot of work and next fall I'll be going to school full time for a teaching credential. While going to school it's much easier to do a painting every once in a while compared to giving myself a year long inte…
Slott's silver surfer is good? I'll have to pick up a TPB of it sometime. I read a lot of Slott's spider-man run and to be honest, as much as people hate on it, he's stories are always pretty good/consistent.
It's not that I hate making comics, it's that this industry feels toxic. It shouldn't be as bad as it is. There's rising table costs for conventions and more of a focus on pop culture instead of comics. Most people that go to conventions buy only fan art of whatever is popular or pay insane amounts …
Hey thanks for all your advice.I really like your comic btw. I'm not just saying that. I didn't know you promoted my stuff. That's really nice of you. I'm going to have to stop being selfish and promote your stuff when I get the chance.
Yeah that's true. By the way what I mean by fine arts is just stuff you put on walls. I don't mean fine arts is better than comic art, in fact I hate a lot of fine/contemporary art (see link) and enjoy comic art a lot more. The terms for art were just a way to differentiate them. Also I looked at…
Cool. I wish you good luck. Let me know how the art fair goes. I've been thinking of giving that a try as well.
I've applied to shows and got in to shows with these urban landscape type artwork. I do it when I need a break from comics because it's easy and don't need to think too hard when I do it. The art is pretty kitsch though, which is probably why it sells. I always charge by size. the bigger, the more e…
Just got back from substitute teaching. I'm sorry I guess I'm not as selfless as other people on this site. It's something I've always trying to work on but every time I see a comic that has some reusable joke like say, ocarina of time's navi being annoying and everybody likes it, I get upset. When …
I do enjoy making comics, but I also think, wether artists like to admit it or not, some satisfaction comes from getting recognition for your work. There's only so many times people can take having your work go unnoticed be it in real life at conventions or online, while other works that you may not…
You should keep it in color. Your color pages look really good.
I don't say anything to subscribers. I feel like posting my comics online for free is more than enough thanks. I know this probably makes me sound like a jerk but also I don't want to send a thank you for subscribing, half-assed pic that I send to everybody that subscribes. It's not something that f…
Characters and art look good. I think you need more backgrounds though. You don't need to have every panel have a detailed background but per page you should have one detailed background so viewers won't get confused on where the characters are.
keness.com is my go to site. They are in USA so it may cost more to ship. Send them an email and find out. They are really good about getting back to emails.
I'm a big wrestling fan first of all. This promo that dolph giggler gives is pretty much what art is to me.
Just finished the first story arc of my comic, Diary of a Douchebag. I feel the character is developing quite nicely. Please check it out if you have the time.
Do not print on demand. It's really expensive. Also use this site: http://keness.com They do quality work and get back to emails really consistently to answer questions.
Totally agree. To me it feels like in our modern world its more about instant gratification instead of being challenged with whatever medium you're reading/watching. I feel like nobody wants to stick around for character development or build up. I feel like a lot of people these days would not want …
[image] Love drawing backgrounds. They really establish the setting of the story. They are really tiring to do (I also hand paint them) but they definitely are worth it. Of course sometimes you can get away with very little backgrounds. Sometimes having too much detail in the background can make th…

Just two quick pen drawings. Didn't start with any pencils or anything. [image] [image]
If it takes place in a school, your main character should always have his/her desk closest to the window. He/she should always be lost in thought until another character starts talking to him/her.
I recently got a masters degree in fine arts and I still work retail. I've worked some freelance illustration jobs but they never really pay enough and are very consistent. I've also done internships, which didn't lead anywhere and usually aren't paid (intact, usually you end up just doing the work …
Really dig that episode 1: act 4 cover. Nice use of the negative space and the diagonal panel and gun make the image look really dynamic.
To be honest, I still live at home with my folks while working almost full time (these sf bay area rent prices) and whenever I create some new art I show them it as soon as possible and they usually get annoyed by it
yeah sorry. I didn't mean pathetic. I didn't mean to come off too seriously. I work retail at an art store and it's back to school and the job has been rough and stressful so I probably didn't read it as humorous. I working on getting a teaching credential so hopefully I'll be finally out of that j…
Yeah, well, if you're stuck working retail or some other crappy job for life it makes sense to try and promote your comic. For a lot of people (at least me) they probably think it may be their only way to get out off their dead end job. Also, a lot of people work hours, days, weeks, and months on…
