Just launched my queer sci-fi comic - THE NAKED SELF - on tapas!

You needed a fourth person [:sweat_02:] this happens to me every time I post a mature chapter. Mine’s novel, but mine gets hidden for like two days before it re-enters the algorithm. I don’t see the same delay with the non mature updates

I've never noticed a delay, but I schedule my updates ahead of time, and they can go live while I'm working and don't check until later. That I'm aware of, it's always seemed immediate. I guess its worth noting that I'm also only on the website though. I don't appear on the app anyway due to matur…

I'm referring to this. So "normal delay" is in probably there are internal reasons episodes don't appear instantly. I know one reason it can be wonky has to do with preventing fake spam accounts that publish their nonesense. At a total guess, maybe if there's a lot of new episodes published around…

Yeah, I think how interested people are in the genre makes a big difference, at a guess. But it's not only genre, because I specifically get most of my subs on my update days. I know I've popped into trending and such too, but I've never been featured or anything. Also, Ratique mentioned checking …

You and @Zugaikotsu already kind of hashed this out, but I wanted to just add my two cents here. I'd chalk up at least 80% of my growth to the fresh section (5K subs, so thats a decent amount of home grown growth, even if it's not "popular"), so at the very least, success may vary. I would guess b…

Your comic is gorgeous. Already subbed it! As a 'coincidence' the same is happening to my novel (also queer, also with romantic relationships later), when I mark it as mature. And in its case the mature content isnt even sexual, yet, it's mostly bitter/unpleasant themes, such as racism, that I mar…

I know a lot of social media platforms are in decay, but I've had precisely the opposite experience to you - the majority of my readers before I got promo'd were from here on the forums, and from social media outreach. Mostly Reddit, and a bit from Twitter and Instagram. I didn't have much of a foll…

Just did a quick search and it seems like your comic got hidden (it's not appearing when scrolling all scifi comics by date)

This helps to get some of your readers to check your updates consistently. It's kinda like on the tv times where viewers knew a new episode of their show would be available every friday. It helps to consolidate viewership. If for any reason you realize you won't be able to update you can always …

I think a lot of the "must always update on the same day/time" wisdom comes from the days before free comic hosting platforms, when everyone who wished to have a webcomic would have to maintain their own website. Your readers would only check your website for updates a few times before they got bore…

Having been on the platform for a few years and having tried a couple of different uploading styles, I'm inclined to agree with your philosophy, Ghost Dog  I think that Frequency ultimately is more important than Consistency for independent comics on sites like Tapas and Webtoons. The Featured/Ori…

Yeah, you can do whatever you want, it's a free comic after all. But, there is a computer algorithm that will reward you based on if you do things consistently. Whether or not it's on Tapas, we know it's on twitter, we know it's on Instagram, and other social media sites where we advertise. So, it…

Hi and welcome to Tapas! Hope you've been enjoying the experience so far. So normally, the easiest way to gain readers is by appearing on the Fresh section (of your genre) on the Tapas page. To get on Trending or Popular requires more effort because it implies gaining enough likes/comments on you…

No problem! Hope you'll enjoy your time here! [:heart_02:]

it helps make your comic a part of people's weekly/bi-weekly (etc.) routine. some people do ask about update schedules if none is specified in the description or none is apparent from the previous uploads. kind of a psychological thing where it can help people grow more attachment to your series. o…

When I started publishing my novel on Tapas, I just posted chapters when they were ready. Then I read about the consistent schedules that everyone thinks are so important and started publishing once a week. To me, it seemed like I got more views that way on each chapter but I'm not sure if that real…

Oh... hmmm... that sounds like some glitch or something because that never happened to me. I have 9 chapter scheduled and they all have the right now on the website and the app, I just checked  Maybe try again, take screenshots and see if other experience the same thing?

I think the point of a consistent upload schedule is to allow readers to expect and anticipate exactly when the next chapter is coming out, which helps to keep them coming back to it. but you should definitely prioritize doing what you feel is right for you!

I am not a very good serial reader, so technically sporadic release schedules don't impact me very much, as long as every X months I can go back and read a bunch of new stuff. But webcomics in particular are canceled and abandoned so quickly that you can really lose readers like me, the occasional b…

Same here. I’m making a comic in my spare time because I enjoy it. I have enough stress and deadlines as it is.

Surprised no one's mentioned a reader's potentially large library of comics to read and their memory of everything in there lol One other reason to do it consistently might be for the sake of relevance in a reader's mind, if the last time you uploaded was say three months ago but you didn't announ…

I think for a lot of readers, knowing what day they can look forward to your next episode generates a kind of excitement and internal hype. As such, when they receive the update alert, they've been looking forward to it, and will be more likely to view/like/comment. Knowing when release days are a…

I completely agree with you! I mean, as a reader, I get it too... You wanna know when the next episode is coming! BUTTTTTT as a writer as well, I totally understand that these episodes don't just magically appear on command - we have to make them happen and that takes time, effort, and IDEAS which a…

Hey and welcome to Tapas! So I'm a casual updater because I also do not enjoy the pressure of needing to update multiple times a week or once a week (for both my novel and comic actually). I also just posted my chapters whenever they were ready, building my audience from my social media rather than …

Many creators who release as they go realize they cannot produce content consistently and quickly this way, and take constant increasing breaks, and cause themselves stress and burn out. So for most people, it's easier to build a buffer first, and work on getting on a schedule they can maintain. It'…

I think the nature of the internet and things being highly accessible Unfortunately breeds expectations to match. I really appreciate the patience and joyful anticipation of things to come, but many people come online for the purpose of having on-demand or on-scheduled new content quickly, even if…

I think many have given good ideas about this topic already - but for me I feel like I would be a lot more stressed about getting content out if I just posted it all right away rather than just having a buffer and posting one page a week. I like to keep posting even when im in a big dip, and for …

Did someone say sci-fi? Well, that's what I write and paint! Technohell industrial planet? A pocket dimension that moves through the fabric (membranes) of all realities? A world devouring civilization? A military leader who has eyes for a scientist? (uh oh) The corruption of an advanced civilizati…
