I understand the concept of the buffer guys.

If I change my update schedule- make it the end of the month or something like that- it would give me time to have new pages to post. I think i would make my minimum 4 pages for a monthly update if i can get them done. I feel like too long a break might kill traffic here entirely. That being said, i…

I work full time, and i just don't work fast enough to build a buffer. I had one to start; as many people do, but its long gone now.

I like the idea of having more reach by being on a platform like tumblr. its been some time since i've been on the site, but i'm familiar with it and its pretty decent for sharing visual art. The kids can be bad at sourcing art, but thats another story!

I definitly considered the effect of not having a posted schedule on my already small readership. I may stick to my current schedule for now and change it later if i feel like i need to. As for Tapas not working quite right- My comic never shows up in the 'fresh' section when updated. Now at first i…

Ok- So, long story short Life conspires to constantly throw me off my posting schedule. I'm not too keen on dropping down any further, but i am debating on maybe cross posting to Tumblr and maybe throwing pages up as i finish them there. I'm doing all my drawing by hand, and i'll admit that i'm …

Since this is really just a hobby for me i don't really begrudge those with more popular titles here on this site. My little comic is stuck at 5 subscribers. I'm pretty sure its b/c i don't update as often as most other people here. I'm going to keep working on my little project regardless! I…

My comic shares a title with a song- on the album it appears thismaybetheyear. I just spaced the words out. I was a little worried about similar issues, but i amazingly don't have a title too similar to anyone here on tapas.

I personally like being an older creator. I think it gives me more real world experience to work with when i'm writing.

I used this as a reaction a few days ago b/c i had to ask a friend avout the slang use of 'extra'.

I'm 33 myself. This site doesn't make feel as old as some other sites do... Not usually, anyway.

Here is what i've learned over the years: First, the vast majority of companies/creators don't want you sellig physical objects using thier work- Prints, tees, etc. That being said, you aren't buying prints on Patreon- just access to a creator's work. I've heard tales of people at anime cons bei…

I'm writing a story set in Texas and i've been doing a LOT of research. Its been fun for me b/c I've learned a lot from it. But i also would like my setting to be realistic, too.

Many copyright holders just don't want you copying something exactly. As long as you keep it vague enough its usually ok. Companies care most about direct use of thier logos without permission and obvious infringement on intellectual property- that is, direct copying of someone else's work. Stev…

Human beings being what they are- Networking is actually one of your best tools. Sure, working hard can be part of the equation, but if nobody sees or knows about all your hard work, its kind of all for naught. What i'm talking about is this- There is this small time comic artist i know name J.R…

I started working on pages for my project back in August or September last year, and i feel like there is a difference in my first page: https://m.tapas.io/episode/579160 And my most current page: https://m.tapas.io/episode/684499

Do you have a stated day you update? I've noticed a lot of comics say "Updates every (insert day here)". I update every other Thursday. Its not as often as some, but it works for me. Also- If you don't have a lot of subscribers it takes more work for people to notice your up to date. My comic of…

I set mine to update 4 am PST. Seems to work ok. I guess it really depends on where the bulk of your readership lies. The Internet being what it is, a U.S. based author may have a radically different update time from someone in Europe or Asia. My mode of thinking was to try and have it available…

I finally managed to get 300+ views on my comic 'This May Be The Year.' https://m.tapas.io/series/This-May-Be-The-Year Not the most ambitious milestone, but I'm happy nonetheless. Its got me motivated to try and make my next update a bit larger than the last two.

https://m.tapas.io/episode/594471 I'm on my phone and it won't upload images- so heres a link.

The Eye of Agamoto from Dr.Strange. it has several incarnations, so you should be able to mimic its basic properties without getting into trouble. Maybe the infinity gauntlet as well? The princesses from The new My little pony series almost all wear gold crowns. There are other magical trinkets fe…

I'm pretty new, so maybe i can add a different perspective to this conversation? First, there aren't a ton of places dedicated to indie comics on the internet. I was on smackjeeves about ten years ago- When i was writing a Dracula parody- and the site looks a lot like it did then. Aside from smackje…

TBQH you don't learn much from just tracing something- so i wouldn't make a habit of it regardless. While you can take your own photos or pay for access to stock photos, you can also take the time to learn to draw buildings. I did a storefront for my thumbnail image without copying anything directly…

https://m.tapas.io/series/This-May-Be-The-Year I think this is a good topic to discuss. We all might be missing out on readership b/c our comic doesn't fit in the category we've placed it. I've got mine in fantasy, but it probably belongs in the comedy section.

This has me thinking that i may have put my comic in the wrong category....

Consider finding what works best for yourself. Keep in mind that there isn't really a standard for 'manga' style, either. You can always strive to be manga-like while developing your own style.

I've seen comic artists who leave crowds real sketchy and unfinished- as well as super generic all-the-same 'blank' kinds of background people. If you want to do something a little fun, you can always hide things in the crowd- like more interesting people or little knots of folks in the middle of …

So i'm actually vendor hall head for a small con, and here's what i've got- Don't hide. Say hello. Even if you just say hi; or even simply smile and wave, it does help. The 'verticle contraptions' are often interlocking crates. Artists of all stripes use them to display on. they break down flat,…

I had to move to every other week in order to stay ahead of myself. However, This will hopefully allow me to post more than one page an episode, and allow me to maintain a good buffer. I think it depends heavily on the type of comic. Story heavy ones seem to average once a week, while smaller thin…

Some of the character's in Kohta Hirano's Hellsing series have round glasses. (The series can be NSFW b/c it is quite violent) Integra Hellsing in particular. I got a cheap pair from a party supply store for $1 to look at on my own face. You might be able to still find them at Party City.
