As someone whose writing can definitely improve, I learned more about the things that I should probably work on. I feel like my story isn't really paced all that well. That probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've been kind of making it up as I go. I know major ticks in the story but I don't…
I finally did it. I got my last three chapters out during one of my busiest weeks. Even though tbh I'm not entirely happy with them since they feel rushed and they're not as polished as I would like them to be. But I'm at least proud that I was able to meet the deadline without giving up. It was …
I guess it depends on the person. If you want popularity and are interested in creating a brand and a following, views and subs would mean a lot. But if you're a person who is into it as a hobby and as an opportunity to grow/improve as a creator, then maybe feedback and engagement would be more impo…
I still have 4 more chapters to go... I'm gonna have to speed things up.
I probably get inspired more by music than anything else. I just let the music animate images in my brain and suddenly I get a character, or I get a scene, or a plot. All my story ideas usually start with the characters, and the tone of the music I'm listening to dictates whether it's going to be a …
I haven't told anyone that i'm writing a novel online. Mostly because the thought of showing my work to them is terrifying and a bit embarrassing. Sharing my work with complete strangers? Completely fine. Sharing my work with people I know and who would probably have nothing but nice things to say…
People have pretty much put all my favorites on here already. My top animated non-disney films are Prince of Egypt (didn't realize how many fans there were. Really glad to see that so many people love it) The Iron Giant The Secret of Nimh Land Before Time Spirited Away (and the rest of studio ghib…
Yeeeaaahh xxxholic and other clamp work tend to be very stylized. I've found that this particular style works better in manga form than in animated form. To each his own.
@trace I completely agree on Bleach. I know people like slamming it for all its flaws but I can't help liking it. As for the worst anime I've seen: For the longest time the bane of my existence was Mamotte Lollipop. I can't even remember why, it's just gone down in my anime career as the one that…
Can't take the coins but I'm all for recommending stuff. Hope you haven't checked out any of these or I'm gonna feel silly. Some of my favs in action comedy are: Noragami-- a show/manga about Japanese gods and their subordinates set in modern day Japan. Yato is a stray god who isn't recognized as …
whoops meant to reply in general
I think one of the biggest draws for people when it comes to slow burn novels is the characters themselves. I know for me if the characters are likable and/or interesting, I'm more likely to stick around despite there not being much going on. THAT BEING SAID, there has to be something going on at…
It'd be cool to see what some of your characters are supposed to look like. For comparison. Because some of these look better than what I could do with my dominate hand.
when you're making a post, theres a symbol up on the bar that looks like a chain. You click on that and put the link in it
I completely forgot to share my novel in the actual contest thread. Here's my entry: A sci-fi story about three rogue aliens who want to conquer Earth in order to save it! It has elements of mystery/supernatural/fantasy in it too. I've been really enjoying checking out some of your novels. Really …
Also question: should I make my chapters shorter? I notice a lot of people are writing short easy-to-digest chapters. Would that be better for this format? Kinda new at this.
Here's my novel. It's a sci-fi story about three aliens who want to conquer Earth in an attempt to save it. It also has elements of mystery/supernatural/fantasy in it.
@Harmony-S-S I feel the same. It can be discouraging when it seems like no one is interested in your stuff, but the best mentality to have is to do it because it's fun. Because the fact that you chose to put yourself out there is great.
Welp, here's my entry: It's a sci-fi story about aliens competing to conquer Earth and a trio of rogue aliens who decide to protect it instead. In the simplest of terms of course.
I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's novels! Feedback is greatly appreciated Good luck to everyone!
As most of these guys said, I usually come up with a personality first and find a name that fits that characters. I try to look up the meanings of the names and if it clicks in my head and feels good then there we go. Other times names come from people I know in real life. In high school I knew a …
seeing an amazing environment/setting in my head but then when I write out the description of the place, my writing skills just aren't at the level to make it seem as great as it was in my head. Same thing happens to characters. Characters could be interesting and compelling in my head but end up b…
I've been kind of beating myself up for not making it to my daily word limit. I just hit 10k yesterday. But seeing that others are behind as well and still happy with what their doing is making me feel a bit better. I guess I should be easier on myself considering this is the first time I'm doing Na…
It depends on what I'm drawing. If I'm drawing something chill or cute, I'll listen to some random lofi hiphop or jazz mixes. This is one of my favorites: I've been listening to a lot of Coheed and Cambria (rock band) lately so sometimes it's that. If I'm doing something fantasy-like I'll pull …
I'm already a day behind. ugh
The biggest story that I have in my mind right now has been 3 years in the making and has evolved and changed multiple times. It started out as a doodle of random characters while I was bored in class. I just decided to create a story around them. I've had stories that I thought up in high school…
I like writing fantasy and sci-fi, my favorite genres. There's usually a romance subplot somewhere in there involving side characters. (I don't really like making my main characters love interests). Horror interests me too, but I've yet to come up with any ideas surrounding it. And yeah fantasy i…
I just recently decided to participate in NaNoWriMo. I have a story that I've been working on for a long while, ( I haven't actually posted here yet. I'm new) But instead of using that story, I'm going to work on a fairly new idea that popped up in my head and see how that goes.
Well I've been lurking on this site for a bit now, and i guess this is as best a time as ever to start creating something.
