Thanks everyone! I think I've got my artist!
Hi! I'm looking for a cover artist for a new novel project I'm going to be starting. I need a good Tapas cover, but I am no kind of artist. It's a fantasy/romance. I'd love something in a style similar to the cover of Lady Evony or A Royal Princess with Black Hair. Thank you so much! Current Tap…
If you'd be interested, I have a dark fantasy/romance BL series going right now that would adapt very well to your style. You can read the story here on Tapas to see if it appeals.
Logline: Her gifts set her apart, but are they enough to survive the Invisible War? Quote: Nothing about this job was going to be easy. It was scary. It was awesome. Rose couldn't wait to get started. Growing up, I loved to read. Books with dragons and spaceships were the best! But there were…
As another data point, my Twisted Magic novel just got featured a couple weeks ago, and it has mature stuff. Definitely graphic sex, but marked as M and at least 20 episodes in. Edited to add: it's also BL.
Commutes are a hard thing to time because of time zones. Whose commute am I aiming for? East coast? West coast? I haven't found any magical time myself. Consistency seems to matter the most--just making sure those updates keep coming.
Your art is adorable! I'm glad you were given "no choice" but to post it.
I agree that the current system isn't great. I'd also like a broader category (LGBTQ+ or something), because most of my work tends to be...difficult to categorize? The current project I have up is mlm, and I had initially put it in romance because it doesn't follow any of the BL tropes, but it was g…
This is awesome! I'll definitely be throwing in some ink!
I just want to say thank you, Tapas community. I've only been here a few months, but I feel very welcome and that every around is incredibly friendly. I want to know how people got here! Are you writing your first webcomic/novel, jumping into the deep end of showing it to people? Have you been sl…
My first Inksgiving! I'm so excited!
I think this counts as anime style? [image]
Count me as another writer of BL who doesn't like the rigid dynamics that are so prevalent in the genre. (Okay, Korin is a total cinnamon roll, but that's a different thing.)
One thing no one has mentioned here is that there are different kinds of editors who all have different expertise and will work with you at different stages of a project. It's important to know which kind of editor you're looking for, and prices will vary. Development editor. This editor will giv…
With all respect to @WillisAuthor, I'm going to offer a different viewpoint in the showing vs telling debate. Like most writing advice, there are no absolute answers and it's complicated. "Show don't tell" if often a necessary lesson as we're first learning to be storytellers. The trouble is, it …
I'm still in the no-man's-land between 25 and a hundred subs. Creeping closer to 100 now, so hoping to be there soon!
Yeah, I feel like I'm lucky to get a comment or like for every 1 in 50 views, or even 1 in 100. Not everyone who reads comments. That's just how people are. Doesn't mean they're not reading.
I've moved into romance from a fantasy/SF background, so there's still plenty of magic and what not in my stories, but I'll tell you--one of the things that has frustrated me with the fantasy genre is the number of stories filled with--let's face it--assholes. I wanted to write a book with charac…
Aha! With you now! It really is interesting the different projects doing differently on other sites.
What are OMF and LWS?
You're not alone. My current project is m/m because that's what it happens to be, but the new thing I'm working on has all kinds of different queer relationships (m/m, f/f, mmf, monogamous, polyam, ace, aro, etc.) and I've been agonizing over whether to even put it on Wattpad because I'm not sure …
And then the hostility towards queerness... But thousands of posts in threads with the title "why do people hate white characters so much", I'm— I saw that thread. And noped right out of there.
I know what you mean about formatting. I have found (on my mac) uploading through Chrome causes fewer formatting problems than using Safari. On Tapas, I haven't found a way to paste things in that it doesn't erase all my italics and bold. Is there any way around that? Or do I just need to get used…
How many people are posting novels here looking for something better than Wattpad? If so, what brought you here? I'm going to admit to being a little frustrated right now with Wattpad. I've been pretty successful with followers/readers. (21k followers. In the hundreds of thousands for views on my …
Good BL? I'm going to suggest my own. I love it, or I wouldn't be writing it! Name: Twisted Magic Type: BL-Dark Fantasy Romance Author: Barbara J. Webb Why I Recommend it: Korin may be the sweetest hero I've ever written. Lots of magic. Lots of angst. Lots of gazing soulfully into each others eyes…
Bragging. Hmm... Look, I love these characters. They're dear friends to me. (Friends who I abuse utterly and make suffer purely for my amusement.) (Never be friends with a writer, kids.) Korin and Ádan are incredibly sweet together. It's not their fault they're having to deal with war and betr…
Trust your partners and take them at their words when they say they want to support you. Creative careers can take time to build, and you've been given the gift of that time! It's good to always be looking at what you're doing with a critical eye and asking if there are ways to improve, but also und…
I was (still am) on Wattpad for years before discovering there were other sites out there. I just started posting stuff to Tapas a few months ago. I've got a decent following over on Wattpad (21k followers), and wish I could just import them all over here! There's a lot to like about Tapas. I've a…
Here's my fantasy romance!
I'm 45. (It sounds so old to say it, but I never feel that old. Still a kid in my head!) One novel going on Tapas so far. Eventually there will be others.
